I Tried It Tuesday: The InStyler

0909-instyler_bd.jpg

I'll admit it. When I saw the InStyler on an infomercial one night, I was skeptical. It looked like one of those kooky gadgets that was a little too good to be true. But ladies, I'm here to tell you that thing really works!

Even though I like to do my own hair at home, I'm not necessarily a genius when it comes to using hair tools. The results I get don't look salon-like, but they're good enough. But the InStyler just might keep my hair from looking like an obvious home job. It's got a rotating barrel and a brush that pulls through your hair while you straighten or curl it. Warning: the tool makes a loud buzzing noise when you press it together but for some reason, that didn't annoy me. I was actually entertained by the novelty of it—I'm weird like that.

Video: How to do a gorgeous blowout. Yes, you can straighten your hair at home and make it look like a stylist did it—if you follow these pro steps.

The bottomline is that my hair looks much sleeker than when I use my regular flat iron. Our trusty interns, Sally and Kat, confirmed this and they see me everyday. Have any of you ever been pleasantly surprised by a seemingly wacky beauty tool?

This definitely isn't the first cheesy infomercial product The Girls in the Beauty Department have tried and loved. Check out Petra's review of the PeddEgg.

LOL... I have had the Instyler for about a month and I really like it! I'm terrible with my hair and usually do the same hairstyle every day... flat ironed straight. The Instyler adds volume and bounce to my hair that I can only get when someone else does my hair! It's FABULOUS!

I, too, tried the Instyler but my hair is really fine. Still, it made it really bouncy which was awesome. Then my daughter took it with her to college and all of her dorm friends use it. They fight over it now because everyone loves it. I'm glad I spent the money on the product because it actually works. Go figure!

I just got the instyler last weekend and I'm in love with it I am so convinced that I won't need to go to the salon for frequent blow outs like I was doing for a long time. This is definitely the real deal

These comments seems to good to be true!.... Please can someone really tell the truth about this instyle hair straightener?.... I have purchased several from TV info commercial and none of them performs the way they claim it to be, so I would like to hear the real deal?.... I just don't want to waste my money on a product that doesn't perform the way they say it will..... really what is the real deal about this product?

I have long, fine hair, but a lot of it! I'm also the mom of a toddler, and have NO time to do my hair (so I resort to a lot of ponytails). I really want to wear my hair down more (ponytails DO get old, after awhile), but didn't want to continue to blow-dryer/big round brush thing, so, after some hesitation, got the In-Styler. And, let me tell you, I seriously LOVE it! The thing I'm kinda over the moon about is that it dries AND straightens my hair at the same time. Plus, it stays smooth, even after I've slept on (not sure how that happens, or what that's amount, but that's the truth). Anyway, this thing was worth every penny. Really, really awesome.

I have a question for the girls in the beauty department, especially the girl pictured in the photo. I was wondering: a) Do you chemically relax your hair? b) Did you use the regular version or the one with the upgraded heat setting? and c) Do you feel that over time this would damage your hair? As most African-American women that relax their hair know how easily we can cause damage by styling it. If anyone else has an opinion, please reply. Thank you!
