Is Kate Moss too old to model makeup?

Say what you will about Kate Moss (and obviously you could say a lot), she's still, technically speaking, a good model. And if I've learned anything from my many, many hours of watching America's Next Top Model, being a good model is not something that, you know, comes naturally to just anyone. And perhaps KM's getting a little more airbrushing these days, but she can still sell the bejeezus out of a mascara or a trench or some ridiculous expensive earrings and I still have an irrational inclination to buy all the crap she's selling, even though I don't need it. Ultimately, this seems like a mark of true advertising success.

So, what up Rimmel? Rumors are swirling that the cosmetics company wants to dump Moss because she's too old and get a younger model to represent the brand (rumors also say this younger model could be Agyness Deyn, and well, you all can guess how I feel about that). Kate's 34 years-old, totally ancient in model years, I know. But is she irrelevant? Putting aside the drugs, Pete Doherty and semi-bad new Top Shop collection, is 34 too old to represent a youth-oriented makeup line? Even if you're a style icon? If it is, it makes me very sad. I'm curious how she ever became a model... She's ugly... And she looks like she's eaten up with cancer or some kind of terminal illness...

Kate is classic. She still has that baby face, good hair.. but my question is.. why Rimmel? The line is mediocre and doesn't live up to the hype. It's one step above Wet N' Wild; and sometimes THEY have better products than Rimmel. Ugh, I don't know, call me a makeup snob, but I've always hated the products. Put Kate back on Chanel!

Unfortunately, we live in a society that worships youth. It's time to change our focus from obsession with youth to being and feeling beautiful at any age. Companies like Dove are working toward this end, and I would like to see more advertisers jump on board. Personally, at 36 I love to see older models. Even when I was young, I liked the fact that older women like Christie Brinkley and Lauren Hutton were still in the public eye. It gave me hope that life is not over by the time a woman reaches 40, at least not for models, that is. Rimmel should keep Kate Moss, or better yet, find an "everyday" woman the rest of us can relate to.

the whole argument is pretty silly to me once you consider other brands that try to appeal to youth markets. to take covergirl's example, you have younger models of that certain Tyra Banks show modeling the same makeup that "older" women like Queen Latifah have also represented.
