Is the Heat Killing Your Makeup Look? Nine Ways to Fix it

The temperatures are rising and you have a few options: 1. Forget makeup and go bare-faced (but if you're like these celebs, that's not a pretty picture). 2. Do your usual makeup routine and watch as it melts off your face (ew -- enough said). Or 3. Follow these hot-weather makeup tips for a polished, shine-free look. Hmmm, decisions, decisions …

If you have a summer wedding to go to, or you just want to survive the walk to work, check out these expert makeup tips:

Tip 1: Blot a lot
"A lot of people make the mistake of toning down shine with powder puff and face powder, which can be problematic," says makeup artist Charlie Green, who uses blotting papers instead. "If you're hot, sweaty and shiny, you don't want to add powder onto oil and perspiration -- you'll get a floury, chalky mess!" Instead, blot forehead, nose, upper chin and the area above the eyebrows with tissue or blotting papers to absorb oils without disturbing makeup. (Try MAC Blot Film, $12.50.)

Tip 2: Cool off your body
"Don't expect to apply perfect makeup as soon as you jump out of the shower," Green says. "All it's going to do is absorb into skin and make you break out. If you're hot and sweaty post-shower, allow yourself 10 minutes to let your body cool down before applying makeup." On the go? Green suggests carrying a portable, paper fan to cool off whenever you feel sweaty while Stern suggests keeping a facial mist in your bag for "a refreshing boost." (A mist to try: Shu Uemura Depsea Water Facial Mist, $24.)

Tip 3: Use a Primer
"[It] helps makeup cling on to skin a little tighter for longer-lasting grip and keeps you from getting oily and greasy during the day," Green says. Another option (great for guys too): Dab a little bit of anti-shine gel under or over makeup to take down the gleam of oily skin. (Try Lola Refine Shine Anti-Shine Gel, $24.)

Tip 4: Don't Be Afraid of Color
Just because your makeup may melt doesn't mean you should shy away from color. "Waterproof mascara and a great red lip is one of my favorite looks with tanned, fresh skin," she says. "[When doing this], keep the eyes minimal but groom your brows." Warm colors like peaches, bronzes and apricots as well as smoky eyes in olive green, bronze and navy blue are also great for summer, Green says.

Tip 5: Chill Your Products

If it's so hot that your products are melting due to heat exposure, pop them in the fridge or store them in an insulated lunch box that has been chilled in the fridge or freezer overnight, Green says. Remember, extreme temperatures can shorten the life span of your products.

I've just been doing concealer under eye, mascara, shimmer glossed lips. Pow! It works. I add eye shadow on occasion in the bronze. oh and don't forget the sunscreen. I use neutrogenas soy face moisturizer with heloplex or heliplex(?) daily.

I've been using Magix face primer from Avon, I read about it in one of the stories on shine about keeping your makeup looking matte and it has sun screen in it. I called my friend who is a Avon rep and she had some in stock & I got it at her dealer discount, it's my new addiction currently where makeup is involved.

Yeah I looked at the celebs without makeup and with the exception of Madonna (and maybe Courtney Cox-Arquette, who just looks like her head is big), they all looked just fine.

Emmy Rosum is gorgeous! But then again she is still really young and I would argue thst she shouldn't be wearing makeup at all.

I never have to use a base, I use a little lipgloss, a little eyeliner and mascra! I hate it when girls that wear tons and tons of make-up it looks tacky, and plus, it makes them look like cheap w----s!

the best trick for eye make up is concealer on the eye lid with a lil translucent powder over it before it creases (put the powder on right away).. no matter how the weather is ur eye make up will stay.. i use a yellow concealer it gives the best coverage canceling out any dark circles and blended properly it won't look all yellow-ey

for lucky..... to get the dewy look without looking all greas-i-fied... instead of wearing a matte powder over ur foundation just get a nice shimmery powder in ur skin tone.. it doesnt have to match perfectly but make sure it doesnt have any chunks of glitter in it wut-so-ever cus if it does ull just look like a clown.. so stick with the shimmers! that's what i use cus i love the dewy look
