Is there such a thing as being too pale?

I've always been pretty pasty myself. Once the summer months come, I have to get out my SPF 30 and spend minimal time on the beach, unless I want to turn into a burned, freckled mess. While I use bronzer year round to keep from looking corpse-like, I've given up on my self-tanner regimen. It's too much work, I can't avoid streaks, and I hate when that fake tan smell gets into my clothes.

Now take a look at this photo of Julianne Moore this past week outside her home in Malibu. (Not it's not fake--take a look at other images here.) If my skin were as ghostly pale and transparent looking as Julianne Moore's, I might consider grabbing a bottle of Lindsay Lohan's new Sevin Nyne tanning mist. I agree that you should love the skin you're in, but there's nothing wrong adding a little color to give yourself a natural glow. Think of it like adding highlights to your hair.

Do you think Julianne Moore looks too pale? Do you work on your body's pigment through makeup, self-tanner, tanning beds or baking in the sun?

I primarily use bronzer and moisturizers that have a little self tanner in them. I am pretty pale myself and I hope that I don't look like this to other people!!

She does have an almost albino look in this photo. However, I really think that the black bikini enhances it. Pretty pastels would encourage her alabaster skin without making it look stark.

She looks fine to me. I am also a pale red head. Self-tanners look horrible on us. Orange, orange and more orange. Not very appealing. My husband says that I'm so pale that I glow in the dark and he has to look at the sun so as not to be blinded by my skin. Let us all embrace the pale.

I love my pale skin. Tanning naturaly or fake and bake can cause skin cancer. If your face gets tan it also ages quicker. I wera no makeup other than lip stick and facial moisturizer with spf 30. Make up can clog your pores and cause acne. I enjoy having blemish free, young looking skin.

I'm not a redhead, but I'm really pale too. It is possible for me to tan, but it takes a lot of time outside and I have a job so it's not happening. I like the look I get when I use sunless tanner, but it does take a lot of upkeep and even though some don't smell too bad, the smell is still there. I do think people including myself look better with a little tiny bit of color (just enough to look alive), but it's not always so easy. In the end it's really not that big of a problem to be pale.

I'm very pale as well and I am so sick and tired of people acting as if they are disgusted by peoples' natural skin color. Would you look at an African person and say "Gee, you're way too dark"? I doubt it. All skin colors are beautiful and we shouldn't be going around trying to change ourselves just because the media says we should. Its ridiculous.

I think she looks absolutely gorgeous and healthy! There is nothing healthy about baked skin! besides, a natural red head with tan skin? Not attractive.

I think she looks beautiful and honestly, I agree with the poster who said that people need to cease the disgust over other people's natural skin color. Julianne will look ten years younger than her tanning counterparts purely because she avoids too much sun. Although, I also agree that a different color suit would have showcased her porcelain skin much better.

Im extremely pale with reddish-brown hair, and all self tanners look terrible on me. They bring out the orange in my hair in a really unflattering way. I may get teased for glowing in the dark and blinding others from sun reflection, but white skin is healthy!
