Is there such a thing as being too pale?

I've always been pretty pasty myself. Once the summer months come, I have to get out my SPF 30 and spend minimal time on the beach, unless I want to turn into a burned, freckled mess. While I use bronzer year round to keep from looking corpse-like, I've given up on my self-tanner regimen. It's too much work, I can't avoid streaks, and I hate when that fake tan smell gets into my clothes.

Now take a look at this photo of Julianne Moore this past week outside her home in Malibu. (Not it's not fake--take a look at other images here.) If my skin were as ghostly pale and transparent looking as Julianne Moore's, I might consider grabbing a bottle of Lindsay Lohan's new Sevin Nyne tanning mist. I agree that you should love the skin you're in, but there's nothing wrong adding a little color to give yourself a natural glow. Think of it like adding highlights to your hair.

Do you think Julianne Moore looks too pale? Do you work on your body's pigment through makeup, self-tanner, tanning beds or baking in the sun?

I am pale with an olive undertone to my skin (that's what you get when you mix Italian colouring with pale people like my Irish and Eastern European ancestors!). I have never used any kinds of fake tanners on myself because I know it'll look terrible and fake. Orange! Ick. Fake tanning, tanning with a UV lights or whatever, no thanks. Skin cancer runs in my family. I'd rather be pale and cancer free...and not orange, either.

I'm redhead and fabulously pale. Redheads and pale peopel are always somehow discriminated against. Sounds like the author has issues with her own skin. No way will you ever find self tanners in my house, I have no desire to be orange.

I personally don't think that she is too pale.

I am just as pale myself and do not mind it.

I will not give into the mainstream of sun-damage and fake tans just to satisfy the public eye.

Imarble2006, I am so going to start saying that to anyone who gives me crap about my pale skin. I've been using "enjoy your melanoma!" for awhile, but that's more biting and will probably make their tanned faces flush bright red.

I'm very pale and, like a lot of pale people, my skin is very sensitive. I have a laundry list of skin conditions. The sun will usually exacerbate these conditions and turn me into a red, itchy mess before I even have a chance to burn. Also, the chemicals in self tanners or even the sun block have me running to the dermatalogist. I'm pale and I'm OK with it. Do I have to change the color of my eyes next? I grew up in Arizona and took a lot of sheet for my skin color. In addition, I always found it boring, to go and just lay in the sun. Just one pasty girl's opinion!

I am pale and do my best to avoid the sun and think that's the best look. A different color swimsuit would be less harsh, but her alabaster skin is lovely. People who have naturally pale skin and try to darken it with tanning or self tanners tend to look artificial. Whether you are naturally pale or naturally dark, embrace it as that is what looks best for you.

I'm just as pale as she is, in fact i even looked pale in my wedding dress. i'd thought it was impossible to look whiter than a wedding dress but i managed to pull it off. my skin doesn't tan at all, it just burns so i either use a ton of sunblock or stay out of the sun as much as possible. i have no problem being pale though, my mother is extremely tan and looks ten times older because of it due to sun spots and wrinkles. i'd rather look like porcelain than leather.
