I hate when they advertise products that promises you long
luxurious hair. All they want is to make a profit out your misery.
I hate when they advertise products that do not work. And guess who
the idiot that buys these products is? Me. I know..... but you
won't know if it works or not until you try it.
But I notice in the commercials how easy it is to style your hair
and how fast it works and blah blah blah. Do you know how long it
takes for me to achieve that level of smoothness and shine? TWO
HOURS, and then five minutes later my hair poofs into its natural
self.
Sure, you should embrace your hair for what it is and for what you
got because some people do not have any to work with. I did embrace
my kinky curls and let them wild and free to curl which ever way
they want, they even poofed and frizzed and I had the audacity to
smother them in all types of gels, creams and serums. For a while I
tortured the poor b------ s to yield to a curling iron and the crazy
heat of a straightening iron to change my hairstyle..... and it
left me..... WITH LESS HAIR TO BEGIN WITH!
So, what I find is that everybody could say whatever they want
about what's good for your hair, what's good for curly hair yadda
yadda yadda and it will never apply to everyone. Maybe it will work
for a while and then you notice more damage, less hair and more
frizz.
My hair is very different. I have what you call biracial hair. It's
not nappy but it's not curly. It's fine, thin, dry and super uber
curly on top. I've been to salons and when they see my hair they
want to relax it with harsh chemicals and put in hot rollers and
have two stylists trying to tame the poofiness with sweat pouring
down their faces and clearly giving up quickly. I did not let them
do that. If I did I would be bald. When I was younger my mom use to
cut my hair like a boy, really short almost like a buzz cut. She
claims that I had just a few tuffs here and there on my scalp and
she and only she made my hair grow to it's fullness. She relaxed my
frizzy hair on the front with a soft chemical relaxer, the mild one
and used Mirthas products to keep my hair soft and shiny. I
remember the days.... ahhh the twenty minutes of smoothing my hair
onto plastic curlers and the horrible hour under the hair dryer.
But afterwards my hair was so nice! smooth and you could see my
hair length, which at some point went past my shoulders and half
way down my arm... the glory days. I was at some point going back
to use the Mirthas products again but they do not work anymore,
either they changed their formula or my hair has morphed into an
uncontrollable frizz monster. Well, it is my fault, trying to
change the hair color to make me look 'different' or to make me
look more 'alive' or to 'change it up', yeeeaaahhh and seven hair
dye jobs later I'm left looking the same but with a more pronounced
frown on my face. I cut it short and grew back but it refuses to go
past my shoulders.
I learned my lesson mom. My hair is not like everybody else. I have
really nice caucasian hair at the bottom near my neck, and on the
sides and crazy kinky curls on the front and middle. I get the
nice hair from my mom and my crazy curls from my dad and although I
appreciate what I have it becomes very frustrating when I walk out
the door with my hair nice and smooth and straight to when I reach
the train station and look at my reflection on the train doors to
see the frizz monster looming at me. I know now that I have so far
to go to regain control over my hair. So far, after my mom has
treated my hair to the old school curlers and homemade treatments
of egg and mayonnaise and an hour under the dryer my hair is
looking almost fit again. I have not dyed my hair in four years and
I do not plan on it ever. Although I do have a henna dye but for
reporation purposes not for color, but it says brown but
that's the color of my hair anyways. I am using the Aussie Moist
line and only wash every three days. The frizz pops up now and
again but instead of getting mad and grabbing at it and
screaming 'why oh why?' at the top of my lungs every morning I
realize I have so far to go and we'll get there frizz monster, we
will achieve HEALTHY frizz free hair again.

Report Abuseyou hair is such a challenge for stylist
it's nice that there are so many product for you to keep trying
and then the new ones that constantly appear
the reason there are so many different product is because there is so many different hair types
what works for you may not work for someone else
when you have perfect hair at home and by the time you get to work or school and it becomes a frizz mess.. try twisting the hair and pinning it .. maybe even wearing a hat until you get to your destination.. then take out and smooth it out when you get there
good luck

Report AbuseGood for you for deciding to relax about your hair. All the time you spent on your hair before can now be spent on more worthwhile things.

Report AbuseNot to brag, but I must be one of the lucky ones w/very long hair. It's 3ft long and NO split ends, straight, shiney, and a beautiful natural red. I too am growing it for Locks of Love, to date I have donated 107 inches. This was a last request from my mother, before she died of cancer. Debi in Michigan

Report AbuseWow, I have the same problem with you! our hair perfectly like twins! I also get the curly frizzy in the middle and front from my dad and the smooth hair near my neck from my mom. I can understand how you feel, because I feel the same. Especially, because the current hair trends is the opposite of our hair condition. What I'm doing right now is still using those kind of hair products, I'm using leave on conditioner and hair serum. I do wish my hair could be changed by Harry Potter. Hopw we can still contact each other for sharing information about our hair. Thanks for the post!
