Madonna is out of ideas: Recycles her old ones

What is the queen of reinvention to do when the '80s come back? Chop up and remix her old self, of course! Madonna's career comes full circle this fall with "Celebration," a collection of remastered old songs ("Everybody," “Express Yourself," and “Vogue” for example) and a DVD of her greatest videos.

We haven't been Madonna's biggest fans lately, but we grew up on classics like "Material Girl," and "Papa Don't Preach," and miss the me-decade Madge. So although we think it's cheap for her to cash in on an album of probably mediocre-remixes, at least she's going back to the territory she knows best.

For those of you who haven't minded Madonna's latest work, there's something for you too: a new title track for the album has been recorded and co-produced by electro phenom Paul Oakenfold. The accompanying video, shot by the guy who made her "Ray of Light" video, has promise as well.

The album cover, pictured above, is a mashup of old and new elements. It was made by pop artist Mr. Brainwash,  who is known for “throwing modern cultural icons into a blender and turning it up to eleven." It's like Andy Warhol's Marilyn meets "Desperately Seeking Susan" crossed with street art. We're into it... we just hope Madonna will invoke the artist we used to love and leave her yoga poses and faux accent at home. [Out]

You know what's sad? Before I even clicked on the article I thought to myself "I bet Joanna wrote this."

She should stick to acting now. She's really very good at it. Check out her videos sometime.

Does an artist crappy later work trump their previous successes?

I think Madonna is a music legend as well, she's human and if she wants to re-hash her previous hits, then that's great for her

I think she should just re-release her old stuff, because I am sure there's a whole GENERATION out there who is NOT familiar with the Material Girl, they just know "old" Madonna, let them relive the great stuff we listened to back in the day

I really do not listen to her music anymore, but I loved her old music, the 80's, Holiday, Lucky Star*, Material Girl, she put really good music out there. Madonna does keep up with the trends, but she really can just sit down somewhere, and look back at her life. Her personal life she really needs to reflect. I don't know why she feels the need to bring back the old stuff....don't get it, don't remaster the music..
