Mean-Spirited Beauty Gifts You Really Shouldn't Give this Holiday

OK, so beauty products like these can be great, easy gifts. But that doesn't mean everything in Sephora is fair game. A few things you should never buy for someone else:

1. Blatant anti-aging products. Anti-wrinkle serums just say: "You look old."

2. Acne-fighting products. Same deal. Now you've made her paranoid that everyone's staring at the zit on her forehead -- nice.

3. Elaborate skin care kits for a non-metrosexual man. He'll never use it, end of story.

4. Super-fragranced products. You love musk; your aunt thinks it smells like a sweaty lumberjack. Stick with lightly-fragranced products instead.

5. Nose-hair trimmers or anything hair removal-related. "Hey, Merry Christmas! Here's a nose-hair trimmer/waxing kit/epilator! It's painful and embarrassing but I think you're super-hairy so I gave it to you anyway."

A facial would be a great gift. I wouldn't take that personally at all- I would look forward to going. Anyone- no matter what their complexion needs facials.

facials aren't always great gifts! my skin type can't get facials without breaking out so it'd be a whammy gift!

I think this article is right on, in a common sense kind of way. There are certain gifts that send a message and these send the "you need to groom message." But a spa gift certificate is considerate - that way it can be used for a facial, massage, mani/pedi, whatever . . . and it ensures that your friend will take a little time out for herself in the near future. Most people can appreciate that.

you are so right. theres just some things people oughtta just shop for themselves. i agree with everyone else as they say they would appreciate a facial gift card though, it seems a little different

I think people are too sensitive. Some of these gifts are cool and I have given them before.

The only way you should ever get someone a gym membership is if they've specifically asked for it!!!!

I think it depends who gives them, and if you actually want them. My best friend gave me anti-wrinkle serum (not that I need it at 27) and I was pretty happy because its a brand I like and it help solve my dry skin problem. If my mom gave me a nice acne cream kit I wouldn't mind either. (a co-worker however...)

Hair removal... depends on the guy, some like it believe it or not, those things can be expensive.

Perfume I agree should be bought on your own unless they know you're favorite scent.
