Naomi Campbell would rather wear fur again than go naked

Dennis Basso

While Naomi Campbell once posed in a PETA campaign declaring she'd "rather go naked than wear fur," it seems the supermodel has gone back on her word. Campbell is now hawking fur for Dennis Basso's fall collection. She claims she's not a hypocrite--that she actually quit PETA years ago--but is being called a hypocrite really worse than someone who admits to liking and wearing fur?

“When PETA started targeting Anna Wintour and Karl Lagerfeld and putting dead animals on their plate, I felt that they went too far and I thought, I didn’t want to be a part of this campaign anymore," Campbell

said back in 2007. "I do like wearing fur and I still do.” When the folks over at PETA discovered her wearing fur on the runway again back in 2004 they decided they had no use for her anymore. “She may have a temper, but she doesn’t have to take it out on animals," they said. "What good is a pretty face if you’ve got no heart?”

While we have to agree that oftentimes PETA is over-the-top with its ads and demonstrations, we think it's an important cause, and are glad it raises public awareness about animal treatment and discourage the wearing of fur.

What do you think about Campbell's decision to ditch PETA and put the fur back on? [SassyBella]

I'm sure they were both paid jobs, shes doesn't care as long as her bank account is looking good. With all the media her attitude attracts this is just another day for her. The fact shes worried about PETA saying she quit is childlike. To me anyone who wears fur should have to kill and skin their own if they can do that then its more real atleast.

Being Native American I continue to wear fur, leather, and eat meat. I don't give a damn what others think because most of these so called "animal" activists don't give a damn about the genocide that has gone on in this country to my red brothers and sisters. The American Indian population went from an estimated 12 million in 1500 to barely 237,000 in 1900 represents a "vast genocide . . . , the most sustained on record. let alone the world around us. But an animal that is specifically bred for the purpose of feeding and/or clothing humans that is such an outrageous concept to them....I don't care what Naomi does but these activists are also vile and rude about there so called cause...they are the repulsive ones.

Honestly... I don't care what PETA says... and if anyone is a hypocrite it's PETA... if only you knew what they do to "unwanted" pets you wouldn't herald their word for anything...

I really don't care what models do to make a buck. It's their own decision. But I believe PETA are the bigger hypocrites in any case. Over the past decade, PETA has euthanized 85% of the companion animals taken into their care. Last year they killed over 2000 pets that could have been adopted out. They COULD afford to become a completely no-kill shelter, but they'd rather spend the money they get from people who think they're donating to a good cause on advertising that casts meat-eaters as today's Nazis. Are they really the shining example of ethical treatment towards animals we're supposed to look to?

I'm all for not wearing fur - don't wear any myself - but I'd rather stick to representing myself and my own beliefs than joining up with the biggest hypocrites of all: PETA. They are worse than all the Karl Lagerfelds and Anna Wintours of the world; simply for saying one thing and doing completely the opposite. Practice what you preach, PETA, and maybe people would still respect you and your efforts.

My mom has a rabbit fur jacket that my gradpa had made for her as a teenager, but the fur was from rabbits he had hunted and eaten. So I dont really see anything wrong with that.

    and about Naomi...

Shes a freaking model. Fur coats, fast cars, and big houses are a part of "the good life", so why should anyone expect her not to wear them?

ppl wont listen if they get tapped on the wrist so they have 2 take a bolder step true they probably went a little 2 far but ppl r ignorant and wont listen until u actually do something serious im on PETA's side at least someone cares about the well fare of animals they cant speak for themselves. i don't think the animals who r waiting 2 get killed r thinking "getting skinned alive tickles!" um yeah i don't think so thats sad that ppl just dont care but i do agree with the fact if u use every bit of wat u kill its justified

Yeah, can't say I care one little bit what PETA thinks of me and my habits. I think they're crazy for their practices.
