President's Leaking Implants- Should They Be Made Public Knowledge?
partner
A major news story at the
moment in the Philippines:
that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo once had breast
implants. The story is old news that only came to light because
her 80's-era implants were apparently leaking—and the story got
even more complicated when her spokespeople denied and then
confirmed the rumors, and then people began questioning whether
laws guaranteeing transparency in matters of the president's
health should make Arroyo's boob job (and any other plastic
surgeries) public knowledge.

Now, we get how gross it must be for any woman to have her chest
discussed on the nightly news. But honestly, people, we've seen
this guessing game with a zillion celebrities, and we really have
to ask: when someone has a
boob job, an eye tuck, or any other kind of surgery, whatever
the situation that sparked that decision, isn't the whole idea
to, duh, change your appearance? And is it that shocking when
people, you know, like, notice?
Also,
do you think plastic surgery can make you more successful in your
career?

Well I think that it is her personal choice to talk about implants or not. If the problem had been life threatening then it should have been made public knowledge if not then it's her decision to share with the public. Should she have to report a yeast infection or ovarian cyst? I think not.

I think that people who get plastic surgery like eye lifts or nose jobs done are generally not wanting it to be noticed, but just want to correct something that bothers them or look a bit younger or refreshed. However boob jobs are more to get noticed, and usually more obvious. While some people may have physical problems with their breasts, most just want them bigger.
I do not think that public figures should need to announce plastic surgery. If she got them in while president I don't think it would be necessary to announce (although I am sure it would be noticed). But if her implants were causing a potential health problem then it would be reasonable to announce it. We get updates on the president's blood pressure after all. As Wendy mentioned, minor problems like a yeast infection are not public knowledge. The implants are more of a grey area, but 80s era implies silicone as opposed to saline.

Why is it ANYONE'S business who has implants or not? That's like asking MEN if they've had penile enlargement surgery. Yeah, I've noticed nobody hears about THAT.
