"Eye-vertising": Have They Gone Too Far?

I've learned to live with the overt product placement in most TV shows and movies these days (remember the McFlurry espisode of 30 Rock?), but this is just too much. To promote the release of the Twilight DVD in Britain, there will be (presumably hot) guys walking around wearing gold-colored contacts that read "Twilight DVD" when you look closely.

I can see it now … a normally shy gal notices a cute guy checking her out, she gets excited, gives him a flirtatious look -- and sees the ads in his eyes. Not exactly a fairy-tale ending.

What do you think? Have they gone too far?

ya, i'm not sure about that ... kind of torn, actually. For one I think it's great advertisement, especially with the young hipsters that are Twighlight fanatics. On the other side, if a guy would come to my house to pick up my daughter with these contacts ... well, maybe I would pull the "I'm such a 2000-n-late"-mom thing and make her stay home.

OMG, compuhleately creepy. Tinted contacts are already questionable on the Creepy Meter. But this is right into the red.

That is kinda creepy. I also can't even read it very well... I doubt it will be effective. I usually don't look into a total stranger's eyes long enough to read whatever would be written on their contacts.

I think I remember hearing about this tactic with another company, but I don't remember what it was. Seriously, seriously creepy though.

I kind of like it. I mean, I like it for Twilight- anything else would be strange.
