Red Lips Reign at Cannes

partner

Both Marion Cotillard and Peaches Geldof showed up at the Chopard Trophy soirée Monday night in Cannes with lips painted in varying shades of scarlet. Cotillard used a more classic bloodred to dress up her finger-combed updo, while Geldof went brighter, opting for a glossy orange-ish incarnation to complement her heavily lined eyes and not one, but two hair accessories. Both work, we think, as good, personality-specific adaptations of the color’s versatility. Which resonates more with you?

In the second Cannes “red lipstick-off” of the week, we bring you Asia Argento’s glossy true pigment vs. Angelina Jolie’s matte sheer stain. Some reds are just hit and miss, love the ones above, they do look very femminine.

I love gloss on more natural, softer colors or springy colors, but I think a classic like red should stay matte. Still, Asia's mouth looks great, I love that particular shade of red.

If a professional makeup artist does your red lips, fine. Otherwise it's a Bozo look. Wear the lip color that looks good on you Not what celebrities wear.

Red lipstick is the color that looks the very best on me. But it's all about my natural coloring. My worst lipstick color is probably nude. I have a lot of natural lip pigment, and my lips are very full, so they're a pretty big part of my face!

When choosing a red lipstick you really should go by the natural undertones in your skin. And one easy way of doing that is to look at the blood veins on the inside of your wrist. If the veins have a very blue appearance, then you have a cool complexion, and should go with a blue based red. If your veins have a more greenish hue, your complexion is warm, and you should go with a more orange based red.

And it really doesn't take a professional make-up artist to do red lips! All you need is a good red lip liner, red lipstick, and the confidence to wear it!

I have some modeling experience, and have had my make-up applied by professionals, but I've always paid attention so I could duplicate the look myself! And that's really what it's all about. And trust me, there are professionals who can leave you looking like Bozo the clown just as easily as you can!

Just try and remember, make-up is supposed to be fun, about trying new things, and looking your best. A make-up look is not a major commitment! If you don't like what you see, wash it off, and try again!!!
