Reduce Your Pores in 5 Steps

By Amy Hunter

Many people want to shrink the size of their pores. Pore size is largely a function of genetics, but as people age, they do tend to become larger. Large pores can detract from the smooth, youthful look that many people consider a sign of youth. There are several steps that you can take to make the pores look smaller and smoother, but, if you are not happy with the results, you may have to visit a dermatologist. The inflated look that pores take on occurs when clogged with oil and dirt. Removing them should improve the texture of your skin.

Step 1
Remove makeupevery night. No matter how tired you are, going to bed with a dirty face is a definite no-no. Even if you do not wear makeup every day, take a minute to wash your face before heading to bed to remove the dirt and oil that has accumulated.

Step 2
Clean your face with soap that contains salicylic acid. This ingredient dissolves the oil and dirt in pores, helping to improve their appearance.

Step 3
Moisturize with non-oily, non-allergenic moisturizer. Salicylic acid can be irritating for some skin types. Combine it with a gentle moisturizer.

Step 4
Wear sunscreen every day. People often underestimate how damaging the sun is to the skin. Sun exposure damages the layers of collagen that create a smooth complexion. Hanging out in the sun without sunscreen will destroy the effects of the previous three steps.

Step 5
Consider in-office treatments. Dermatologists have a wide range of tools not available to the average person. Chemical peels and laser resurfacing can smooth the appearance of pores more effectively than any over-the-counter procedure. They do, however cost more, and, depending on what treatment youchoose, you may have a raw, irritated face for a week or two.

Tips and Warnings
  • Save time washing your face each night by investing in facial cleansing cloths pre-moistened with salicylic acid.
  • Only a medical professional should perform peels and laser treatments.
Things you'll need

consider a toner after cleansing to restore pH balance and close pores. Or a simple cool washcloth to close pores before applying moisturizer.

I am a thirty two year old mother of one, who still gets those nasty blemishes and pores. I use the Clearskin professional acne treatment system from Avon. I also am now a Independent Avon Representative and will testify that this is a great product, very easy on the the budget for only $29.99 and it lasts me for about a month. But I can finally say my skin is finally looking a whole lot better and the best part if it does not work Avon has a 100% refund if it does not work for you.
