Relaxed Hair: Back on Track to Growth

user

It's been about 2 years since I recieved my first relaxer. I can remember the day. I was so nervous, yet excited to see the results. And it turned out great! It was down to my shoulder-blades, shiny, and a dark brown.

Now, these 2 years later, my hair has broken off to about my shoulders. The back is long somewhat but it is nothing like the condition it was before.

Of course I know relaxers are damaging and this is part of the inevitable tear of damaged hair... (and for those to whom this does not apply, what is your secret?!) But now, I am on the road to recovery. I have seen my errors, changed my ways, and am now traveling to that light- of healthy hair.

To aid in my travel, I recently bought Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Hair Lotion. I read that hair oil is too harsh on relaxed hair and it clogs the follicles (because I did love me some Magic Sheen...) but I'm hoping this will help take the place and add moisture. So far, my hair has improved in moisture. Though after I first apply it, my hair is a little...thick, I've noticed a great decrease in breakage. Or maybe that's just because I actually applied something to it...

Well, I'll see how it goes...It's been about a week since I've started using the lotion...

i no longer relax my hair but here are some tips that may help:

do not comb or scratch your scalp a week or two before your touch up - this is why you experience burns and scabs during the relaxer...

to avoid breakage (for all hair types), try to wrap your hair every night, sleep in a silk scarf, find a shampoo that is mild and doesnt strip hair, always deep condition after shampooing, use the relaxer consistantly (if applied wrong or you overlap it will damage your hair over time).

    hope this helps~~~

I am mixed as well. I like the pantene shampoo and conditioner for black hair...it does not strip the hair of moisture!
