So, it seems that nowadays all female "Trendsetters" have short hair. From Agyness Deyn (British Super model-also my favourite model and a major influence in my own personal fashion designes) to Audry Tatou (French Actress) to Rihanna (R&B singer). Naturally, after seeing Agyness Deyn with her edgy 'do last year, I was inspired to cut off my long locks in favour of a more edgy, hard core style. My problem? My boyfriend. He is currently in college in VT, While I'm still in highschool in another state (Yes, I'm young, but I am an aspiring fashion designer at 16 and I know my stuff. And Yes, it's a long distance relationship, but we've been together for almost a year and we're both happy "Taking it slow"). When I told him about my desire to cut off my hair -donating it to "Locks of Love" of course- and getting a short, edgy, choppy hairstyle, he had one reaction. "Oh, please Don't! All the pictures you've shown me of that short haired model (Agyness Deyn) you like make her look like a man! Please don't, I love you the way you are!"
Dispite his near-begging, I did it.
Now, I understood that I wasn't going to look exactly like Agyness, but I still wanted to experiment with some play on gender. Luckiy for me, I can pull it off. I am curvy, and it is the perfect hairstyle for my more edgy-punky style.
But what if it had been a disaster? What if my hair didn't look edgy and sexy and androgynous like I'd wanted? What if I'd just ended up looking mannish? Who can pull off the shorter boy-cut hair and still look delightfully feminine? Size 0 models are one thing, but I'm a dress size 4 or 5 and pants size 6. They weigh 115lb and are typically at least 5'10", but I'm 139lb (Give or take depending)and 5'4 (Yes, I'm confident enough to admit my weight, and I do diet and play soccer). What sorts of body types work? Why? And how many of you readers have or are thinking about getting a short hair-cut? Does anyone find them sexy? And finally, when you see a girl with short hair, do you think "Oh cute", or "Oh, she looks like a boy."?
