Spring Clean Your Skincare Routine
partner
What
you really need to keep your skin healthy. Three
products — cleanser, toner, moisturizer — are the nuts and bolts
you can’t do without. Two more additions, a night cream and
exfoliant, complete what should be in every woman’s skincare
regimen.
What’s the first step in scaling down your skincare
routine?
Focus
on the essentials. People want to go for the expensive
moisturizer and eye cream. They put their money into the wrong
thing. You have to invest in the basics.
MC: How do I choose a cleanser?
RR: You need a
cleanser that doesn’t dry you out. If, after you wash your
face, your skin feels tight and dry, it’s too strong. If you
overdry your skin, it ruins everything you do afterward.
MC: How often should I exfoliate?
RR: You’ll want to exfoliate two to three times a week. I
prefer a facial scrub with perfectly round beads (so this is one
time that natural is not necessarily best). Your scrub can be used
in lieu of a cleanser in the morning. Leave it in the shower for
ease of use.
MC: What ingredients should be avoided?
RR: Synthetic fragrance, typically listed as “fragrance”
or “parfum,” is the number one reason for allergic reaction. Steer
clear of alcohol — except in spot treatments — as it dries skin
out. Mineral oil, which is often found in products geared toward
older women, can suffocate the skin and exacerbate redness.

This is a good article. I had been trying to figure out how to pare down my own routine and I have it now. For A.M. I use a non-foaming cleanser and glycolic acid toner, then my SPF 55 as moisturizer mixed with Philosophy's vitamin-C powder. For P.M. I cleanse and tone, then use a serum with alpha hydroxy acids as my exfoliant and top it with a moisturizing night cream. I also have a spot treatment for any breakouts that occur.

you n the worst thing to do to youre skin is to keep gunking it up with this stuff, find one light thing that works only use it and have it part of youre every day, where light make up dont cake it on. that how you clear up you skin. nothing is wors for youre skin then to keep swiching skin products thats why it breaks out. you know i dont use any skin treat ment i use a tiny bit of bare minerals and i take it of at night im 18 and i dont have any blemishs.

If you are blemish prone, and find many OTC products too harsh for your skin (as I have) try this home ready that I use as a natural toner after washing with a gentle cleanser:
-Take some cotton balls and add 1-2 drops of Organic Tea Tree oil (you can always increase the amount of Tee Tree Oil you use, but start out with this amount to assess you skin's tolerance) and then saturate your cotton balls in Witch Hazel.
-Swab over skin, you should feel a slight tingling sensation (not burning, if your face is burning, you have use too much Tea Tree Oil!)
-Let your face completely air dry (takes about 5 minutes) and then apply your moisturizer.
This simple 3 step regimen has brought my breakouts and oiliness under control in a big way. Tea Tree Oil is a natural antiseptic and Witch Hazel is a natural astringent, the power of these two together is wonderful.
