Study Shows: Blondes Spend More Time Primping. Are You Surprised?
partner
A new development has
been made in science's never-ending quest to determine whether
blondes really have more fun (seriously, do they really have
nothing more pressing to investigate?). A study determined that
blondes on average spend six more minutes getting ready than
brunettes.
The study found that brunettes take 66 minutes to get ready
daily, and their fair-haired counterparts take 72 minutes. This
works out to 19 days versus 22 days a year spent primping,
respectively. One other interesting find: brunettes were more
likely to leave the house without doing their hair and makeup
(I've been guilty of this a few times,
as have these celebs -- eek!).
The theory goes that since blondes spend more time primping,
they look better/feel more confident and ergo have more fun. What
do you think? Does this theory hold water? For example, do you
think that
these blonde celebs really have more fun than
these brunette ones? (And don't forget
the redheads, the study didn't mention their primping
habits unfortunately.)
I don't think we should all go blonde so that we have more
fun (although if you're going to,
make sure you check out these crucial tips first), but maybe we
can learn a lesson from this: a few extra minutes primping could
translate into more confidence during the day and maybe even a bit
more fun. Orrrr, maybe this is all just nuts ...

in some instances (like, uh,
these for example) it's a baaad idea.

I know that I don't take nearly as long to get ready as some of my brunette friends do. Why does everyone always pick on the blondes?!

66 minutes for brunettes? Clearly they didn't survey people who have kids. Try 6 minutes! I came to work today with WET HAIR, people! :)

my question is, does a shower count as primping?
otherwise, the makeup and hair take 10 to 15 minutes, if you are taking any more than that, you are doing it wrong! (or have really loooong, or really problematic hair) - unless you are getting ready for a major event, not just a daily routine...
now to the brunette vs. blonde question...
what if I'm a brunette at heart?

Most women and metrosexual men take hours primping, I couldn't stand that, I just brush my hair and go, people always compliment me, they think I straighten it! HAHAHA, all natural baby, thank goodness, I'd never spend more than 15 minutes on hair.

The article itself is okay, but that title is a throwback -- offensive, stereotypical, lazy writing. It makes me want to write an article about how insecure brunettes are.

I think that anyone who cares about their appearance (and not to mention plain good hygiene) is going to put the time in. And this survey sounds very vague i.e., what does getting ready for the day involve and what sort of day are they talking about; a stay at home mom, a working girl?
Personally, I am blonde and love it. When I went from brunette to blond in my early twenties, heads started to turn, men and women. As a result I think I did start to take a bit more time with my appearance. It was fun for my ego and my confidence level.
Getting ready for the day...if I am not going out, it is sweats and no make`up. C'mon, give yourself a break. Let your skin breathe and toss that hair up into a messy bun!! If my day is just running errands, I put in a bit more time; shower, blow dry, jeans and sweater, simple make`up...45 minute tops. Meeting friends for lunch, 1 hour putting extra careful effort into the whole process. I am presenting myself to people I love and my outer self is a reflection about how I feel inside. I know and meet the lovliest women that don't put this effort in, that dress simply and don't wear make~up and they are some of my best friends. There is a light that shines in their eyes and a genuine vibe of self acceptance about them. That is their thing. We are all different and the survey is making a lot of assumtions rather than presenting facts. It's nonsense!

I loathe having to 'get ready' every morning, but I like the way I feel when I'm presentable. It makes me sad to think that 22 days a year are spent just 'getting ready'. Although, on weekends and some days when I skip blow drying (which usually end up disastrous)I can be ready in 5 minutes.
Keeping up appearances...for who? I always say that I like knowing I can look pretty fancy if I want to, but so many times I've yearned for the life of a buddhist monk; shaved head, a nice big sheet, and my own cave with incense and a Himalayan vista. Bliss. So, okay, I'd miss things like sex, and dance parties, but maybe I could work those into my monk lifestyle, hahaha. Everything else is just ego and the social contract. I mean, the company I work for dictates that I have to wear 'work clothes', closed toed professional shoes, no blue jeans, no graphic tees, and maintain a professional demeanor. I'm pretty sure that means I should wear suits and buisness skirts and not big sheets. So, if I want to get paid, so I can pay for my life and pay taxes to pay for roads that I drive on with my car that I paid for with money from my job...then I guess I better put in my 22 days of 'getting ready'. (or shave my head or become a man, hmmm) Do you think this much?

They didn't cover redheads, although, I can be completely ready for work in 15-20 minutes and out the door.
