SUGAR and HONEY
They sweeten up your cereal and biscuits, but did you know
they can get you on your way to glowing skin and lips?
SUGAR, Sugar!...
Just regular table sugar (the kind you would pour on your Cheerios) is a cheap, natural, and effective exfoliator. Add it to the mix of your beauty routine and you're sure to get glowing fast!
...Ah, HONEY, Honey!
Honey has been used in beauty treatments for centuries because of its moisturizing and skin rejuvenating benefits. Plus honey is an antimicrobial substance, which makes it good for minor burns and abrasions (also good for acne prone skin!). AND (check it out!) Honey has been found in preliminary studies to have significant natural antioxidant properties!
RECIPES:
- Before going to bed, dab honey on your lips, then dab on some sugar. Massage gently into your lips for 30 seconds to 1 minute, rinse off, and then apply your favorite moisturizing lip balm (I recommend Blistex's CoQ10 infused "Deep Renewal" or Vaseline's "Advanced Formula" Lip Therapy) before sliding under your sheets... Ta Dah! Wake up to gorgeous, soft, pouty lips!
- If you're in the middle of a morning rush but want soft lips, try this... Immediately after your morning bath/ shower, apply lip balm, dab on sugar, gently massage in for 30 seconds to 1 minute, wipe mixture off with a wet wash cloth, and then reapply lip balm.
- For glowing hands, try the same trick... Pour honey (about 1
tbsp) into the palm of your hand, then add 1 to 2 tsp of table
sugar. Massage into hands (just like you're rubbing in lotion),
and be sure to coat all areas of your hands. Rinse off in warm (not
hot) water then apply a generous amount of rich hand cream (Try
Neutrogena's Norwegian Formula hand cream).
*** TIP *** Always apply hand cream and lip balm before going to bed-- What other time do your hands and lips get 8 hours (give or take) of uninterrupted moisturizing? - For radiant skin all over, add sugar to your morning shower "to do" list. Pour sugar on top of your shower gel dosed loofah, sponge or scrubbie gloves (my personal favorite). Then scrub gently all over and rinse off as usual. Be sure to use lotion after your shower-- Not moisturizing after exfoliating can give you some serious chapped skin (Try Jergens' Skin Smoothing body lotion with dissolving beads of Jojoba oil and natural fruit acids).
- Your face can get in on the action too-- Mix 2 tbsp honey with 2 tbsp milk and smooth over face and throat, leave on for 10 minutes then rinse off with warm water.
If you want off-the-shelf sugar and honey fixes, I recommend
Freeman's Feeling Beautiful Sugar Body Scrub with Pomegranate
and Burt's Bees lip balms and lotions (some just have beeswax--
check the label if you want honey).
