American Apparel nylon scrunchie, $3.50, available now

It's not bad enough that the scrunchie is returning, but we have to see it in neon green? My eyes! My eyes are bleeding!

Dear readers, I've been holding out on you. I've had pertinent style information for months now, but I have not wanted to share. At first I thought it would just go away--I was protecting you from unnecessary pain. But now the situation has grown grave, and it's time to let the bad '80s hair accessory out of the bag: Ladies, the scrunchie is back.

And it is back in a big way. I fear for us all. See the evidence above.

Even though scrunchies are a fashion DON'T, I still like them for a beauty routine, like washing your face. And they are the most gentle thing for the hair. So just wear them at home or around a pool!

I don't understand why it's coming back. Of course American Apparel would sell them, though. That one's actually pretty cute.

Ok,, so I'm not the biggest fashionista on the block but I usually look pretty cute when I want to, as far as clothes and style go. The scrunchie has been a part of my life since i was in high school, and I will always use it. Say what you want... If you have a job where you actually DO WORK (not in front of a computer, actual work with your hands, body, etc) you're probably in a comfy Tshirt, levi's, and guess what works best to keep your hair back and not damaged... a scrunchie.

Plus, you know what? If you have a laid back casual style, the right scrunchie looks good. Boho, hippie, beachie, whatever.

Wear your scrunchie, and I'll wear mine. Start teasing your bangs and tight french-braiding, well, you're probably going to get made fun of.

I have a guess why it is coming back. We are torturing our hair on a daily basis with all the bleached highlights and 500 degree flat irons. Regular bands cause weak hair to break off, scrunchies provide protection. It is the elastics that causes heat friction with hair and that causes the hair strands to swell up and break off. The cloth on the scrunchie covers the elasitc.

nothing wrong with a scrunchie in my book. Why does it seem that we are always dictated by what's in style or not. Wear whatever looks good on you and what makes you feel good.

What is wrong with just the good old neutral colored scrunchies? I wear one everyday but they are black and dark brown and in my dark brown hair they are not that noticeable. By the way omerlm, I completely agree with you. I don't have to get dressed up for work, so I don't and I'm not going to break my hair just for the hell of it.

OMG! GOD NO!!!!!!!!! NO NO NO!!! Scrunchies, are so tacky, not to mention ugly and always go with a disheveled look! NO!!!! The only time a scrunchie looks good if it is on a neat bun, and it is going for an Espaniola" look, like the Flamenco dancers from Spain, but if you are using it to go out and just do some messed up pony tail cuz you are too lazy to do your hair, please stay at home!

BTW, I did not know that "Renanda," and to "Omerlm," I am sorry, but my office job is more of a real job than your manual labor! Sorry that I went to school so I don't have to work like an uneducated laborer that does not have to think to do the job, just work like a dog.
