Today in Madvertising: Does seeing women under duress make you want to buy clothes?

Sweet Lord, when will this kind of crap end?

Italian clothing designer Relish has just released ads which depict men dressed as police officers choking, grabbing, shoving, and sexually assaulting (note the hand up the skirt in the picture at left) two models who are wearing Relish's new line of spring clothes.

Here's my big question: How is viewing the active abuse of other women supposed to entice us into buying dresses? It doesn't make sense. Is this meant to trigger some kind of domination fetish? Do these companies believe we're all masochists and therefore—obviously—assault makes us feel sexy?

Honestly, this second image pissed me off to the point of rage.

In other news, I hate the cropped pants, the hooker-ish gold shoes, and the screaming-in-pain girl's shorts look like a diaper.

Hey, folks at Relish, this is what I think: You're a bunch of misogynistic douche bags and your designs suck.

The end.

If I had to speculate, I'd guess that they're trying to infer that their clothes make a woman soooooooo appealing that not even trained, uniformed men can exercise control. The though of a man being uncontrollably attracted to a woman would probably be more palatable if the image also inferred that the man and woman are already romantically linked, and not abusing their authority. On a side note, a little bit of control and release in a sexual setting, WITH SOMEONE YOU CARE FOR AND TRUST, can be a little fun.

this is horrible! how is advertising abusive behavior a positive thing? i know the men and women are just models posing for a pic, but the idea it gives off is not enticing at all!

And it's a little weird that both cops are black, while the women are white. Is that supposed to mean something?

Actually what might be more interesting is to see the opposite. See the women in control of the situation. I would be more interested. I know I feel more powerful at work when I wear good clothes.

But its European and they have different idea's. Dont buy their clothes and send them a letter.

Ads like this are meant to shock I suppose, they bring back the days of women being subjugated by men, which still continues so much. Men are stronger and any woman who has been raped can tell you this is a terrible depiction of men shoving women around. My God, it's disgusting. Really.
