Top 5 Hot Sports Wives

As football season heats up with the holidays, we got to thinking about the current crop of sports wives who, in the classic Joe & Marilyn tradition, steal more than a little of their husbands' spotlight. When it comes to personality, it's Eva over Tony hands down. Victoria Beckham rivals David for style any day and $150-million-dollar Gisele trumps Tom in the bank account department. (We know she's not married to Tom Brady but can you blame us for including her?) See where these ladies and others landed in our Top Five Sports Wives countdown.

Since everyone has at least one sports-loving guy on their gift list, we put together a special shopping guide to give you a jumpstart.

If you're shopping for...

A New Guy. He sat through 'Rachel Getting Married' without complaining. It's time to reward him with tickets to a game that you can go to together. These three websites-StubHub.com, TicketsNow.com, and craigslist.org- where buyers and sellers can interact directly, are great for finding deals and seats when more conventional outlets are sold out.

A Guy You've Been Dating a While. At a certain point, when he comes out in a jeans-and-jean-shirt ensemble, you've been together long enough to gently ask, "Do you really want to wear that?" The holidays are an opportunity to point him in the right sartorial direction. No one can argue with a classic, universally flattering wool pea coat. We've spotted Brad Pitt, Jake Gyllenhaal, Colin Farrell, and Ben Affleck in variations on the pea coat cut. Army Navy stores carry them. Banana Republic's $350 version is dashing.H&M has a sleek black option for $79.90.

Your Long-Term Main Man. Since Elin Nordegren's our number one sports wife, we checked out Tiger Wood's Tag Heuer Professional Golf Watch. It's an investment at $1600 but one that Tiger fans would surely appreciate. If you're looking for recognizable design for less, one brand we love is Toy Watch. Take a look at their Gold Chrono Collection to see what we mean. They're nicely priced at $150 and up. Fans include Adrian Grenier, Aaron Eckhart and Owen Wilson. We particularly love the 'emerald' from their new Jeweltone Plasteramic Collection.

If there's anything you'd like us to help you find as you shop for your sports-addict or anyone else, for that matter, let us know at sar_bernard@yahoo.com or post a comment below.

Thanks for checking out The Thread. We'll be back again next week from our Planet Hollywood studio with a brand new episode.

Want a REAL sprts wife?? Try a NASCAR driver's wife! They are down to earth and give to charities and stand by their man in decent clothes and don't look like they need a good meal!

OK, Gisele is married to Tom Brady nor are they even engaged so how she made a list concerning "Wives" is beyond me...and who the hell ever heard of....Tiger Woods' wife...so her "overshadowing" him is doubtful. I'll give them Naomi Judd and Eva Longori....hell I'll even say that Posh Spice is more widely known than David Beckham, but the other two are a stretch!

If Tom Brady hasn't decide to legitimize Gisele, why are you? Next time don't use "wives" in your headline. Makes you look ignorant.

Vapid and ridiculous and mysogynistic. Moronic.

"Writers" like Sarah Bernard and her ilk- (she is a writer in the same way Lauren Conrad and her kind are designers)abound unfortunately. America is so dumbed down by television and pop culture that this crap passes as news.

    Wake up America!

I used to enjoy the lighter conversation of pieces like this one, but when people cannot spell or use correct grammar....Aye Dios Mio...what has happened to our country? Are there no civilized, educated people left?
