Just got back from the Topshop preview (and clearly, I was not alone).
I can't remember the last time I
was so excited to go on an
appointment! For the uninitiated, Topshop is every editor's primary
shopping destination in London. They're finally opening in New York in
October and the clothes and services are unreal and completely
affordable. Emma Jane Farrow, one of two head designers, walked me
through the entire collection, which went from wonderland to bandstand.
And Mary Homer, managing director, turned me on to all the new services
they plan to offer. Every store has at least 15 style advisors you can
book for help. They will pull a rack of clothes into your dressing room
and get you out of your fashion rut. Not only is the service free, you
can snap up photos of yourself Helmut-Newton-style in the in-store's
Newton Machine. And if you live in NYC and get that last-minute invite
to somewhere fabulous, just send a text to a style advisor and she'll
show up at your home or office with van filled with great looks. No
pressure to buy anything unless you want to. Are you excited yet? It is
called Topshop To Go. Cool no? But the best part of the meeting was
hearing how women are dressing in London right now -- playsuits (they
even wear them to work) and pelmet skirts (pelmet is the British word
for valance).
Check out more favorites from the collection.
