Feeling sticky and steamy? You’re not sushi rice. You’re a human. A gosh-darn good looking one, at that. Good looks aside, we all have days when summer gets the best of us. Our makeup melts, our hair expands, and our skin feels… not so fresh.
So what’s a girl to do when the temperature is nearing ninety and your long day running errands, running meetings, or running miles has left you sticky, steaming, and altogether unpleasant? Throw in the towel. But first, hit the showers.
There can be no better feeling than a cool (or cold, if you can handle it) shower to wash all the stickiness away. Here are a few tips for maximizing your five minutes (we are trying to save water, and the universe, after all, aren’t we?):
· Products containing mint and eucalyptus are great refreshers and leave a clean, crisp scent. Anything too fruity or flowery can feel heavy in the heat. I love John Frieda Root Awakening restoring shampoo and Aveda's rosemary and mint hand and body wash.
· Once
you’ve cooled your core a bit, turn the temperature up ever so
slightly and make use of a salt and olive oil
scrub. While there is such thing as
over-exfoliating, summer’s the perfect time to pay a little
attention to our knees and elbows. There’s no
hiding our rougher angles in a bikini, after all. You can
easily make your own, or try Origins'
Salt Rub. The container is too cute.
· Don’t have time for a bath, but want to extend your cooling session beyond a quick shower? Throw some Epsom salt or bath crystals in a nice, big bowl. Add a little hot water to dissolve the salt or crystals and then top with cold water. Add river rocks and roll your toes over them for a d.i.y. massage.
Hopefully, you’ll hop out of the shower a cooler, calmer and if
possible, even more beautiful creature than when you hopped in.
How do you keep cool and recover from a sweltering day?
Do tell!
