User Post: Doing the Dye!
user
Last night I attended a going away dinner
for a friend, and for some reason the conversation turned to
eyelashes. The girl across from me was a natural blonde and
mentioned that her eyelashes are so light that she hates spending
15 min putting on mascara.
Then she said something that made my jaw drop.
She gets her eyelashes dyed. DYED! Maybe I've been living in a
dark hole, but I've never heard of it. She said its not that
expensive, and that it lasts about 6 weeks.
I have to say I'm definetly intrigued! I hate putting on
mascara every day cause I tend to pick it off, leading to no
eyelashes which is NO BUENO! I'm thinking of trying it.
Have you ever heard of dying your eyelashes? Do you dye your
eyelashes? What is it like? What do you think?

I've never heard of it but I think it's a horrible idea!
Sure, in theory it sounds great...but the thought of having chemical dyes that close to my precious eyes makes me cringe. What if something goes wrong? what if the harsh chemicals actually make my eyelashes fall out? what if I have an allergic reation to the dye that most other women don't get?...theres just to many "what if"s for me. I'll stick with the tried and true standby mascara.

Women in Europe have been doing this for years. I went to Poland this past summer and my aunt took me to have it done. They dyed mine using henna and when finished my lashes were so long and dark; there was absolutely no need for mascara! Plus it does last for multiple weeks.

Heard about this a few years ago, everyone who has tried it seems to like it. As far as the "what ifs'", if you dye your hair you have the same risk of chemical reactions and possible hair loss just the same. I've had an allergic reaction to a certain mascara once and suffered horribly from it. So you never know until ya try. As long as the person doing it knows what they're doing and has a good rep I think it would worth a try.

I've heard about this...sounds great in theory but I've never tried it. Why? It's expensive, doesn't last very long, and there are potentially VERY serious consequences - you can go blind if they screw up. So if you decide to try it, vet the salon really really well first.

If you go to a licenced professional who knows what they are doing, it is perfectly safe. I have been in the business for over 20 years and have done multipul eyelash dyes. The results are good with no real side effects. At least none if the client doesn't already have allergies and doesn't tell you about them. Moral to the story....if you are sensitive don't do it.

I think they generally use plant-based dyes for the eye-lashes. I'd like to try it, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
Who spends 15 minutes putting on mascara? It takes me about two.

I'm a natural redhead with very light eye lashes that are virtually invisible without mascara. I've dyed my eyelashes before beach vacations (when I know I'll be spending lots of time in a pool or ocean and don't want to deal with makeup). I love it. Its easy, painless, and relatively cheap with long lasting results. They use natural dye made out of henna so its safe for your eyes. I think it gives a nice dramatic effect while still looking natural. I'd recommend it to any natural redhead or blonde.

That is so interesting. I've never heard of dying your eyelashes, and I think it's a great idea, especially since it'll save a lot of time in the morning. One less thing to do in the morning.. Now finding a salon that does it, any suggestions in Las Vega? (this is where I live)

I'm also a natural blonde with white eyelashes, and I don't ever leave the house without mascara because my eyes are bland and definition-less without it.
However, I'm leery about dye. I've been told that you can find places to do it, but no reputable salon will do it because it's too dangerous to get chemicals that close to the eyes.
