User post: Don't throw out... unused shampoo and body wash you don't like!

If you end up not liking a product that you have purchased, you may be able to return it and get a refund.  If not, save your empty hand soap dispenser and refill with the unused product... what does not work for your hair, will work on your hands... your money won't just be going down the drain!

Would shampoo used as hand soap really kill germs, though? I agree, conditioner is GREAT to shave with!!!

Germs aren't difficult to get rid of...lol...the antibacterial movement is raking in the money nowadays. Simply using soap (of any kind...including shampoo) and warm water and rubbing them well, removes just as many germs. A rule of thumb, is to sing happy birthday twice, while rubbing you hands together.

Regarding the poster that said to wash your dog with it - don't do that! Human shampoo strips their fur of needed oils so only use dog shampoo on them.

Conditioner does work well as shaving cream though - I agree with that one!

I was reading an article talking about hand washing methods. Random, I know. However, it said that its just as effective to not use an antibacterial soap, but to scrub your hands for the amount of time it takes to sing "Happy Birthday" twice. So, if you replace your handsoap with shampoo, just sing your way to clean hands!

Another use for unwanted/leftover shampoo: cleaning make up brushes and hair brushes.

If after using it just once or twice you decide you don't like it, consider donating to a women's shelter.

I worked at a women's shelter and we always had need for shampoo, conditioner and other toiletries.

Some of the women we took care of hadn't had a shower in days and were so grateful for anything we could give them.

All great ideas. Shampoo is also great for washing out bras and other delicate items-it can be done right in the shower.

One other thought: I work in a program for abused women and children, and although we certainly have and ongoing need for products such as shampoo and conditioner, we are not allowed to accept containers that have been opened. Readers might want to check with their local shelters before dropping off donations.
