User Post: FACE IT: You need help!

It may be my DNA or it may be the August heat, but this time of year wreaks havoc on my skin.  Not only do I have more breakouts, but the constant heat makes my face look like an oil slick.  Even a beauty like Renee Zellweger can have a bad skin day.  If she can have an oil slick day, none of us are safe.  Here are some of the tricks that I use to abolish the slick:

BLOT:

The best way to get rid of the shine is to blot it away.

Essential Beauty Supplies has fantastic Rice Paper Oil Blotters for a reasonable price ($5.49 for 65 sheets).  They come in White for fairer skin tones and Rachel for darker skin tones.

If I don’t have Rice Paper, I carry a small pack of travel tissues.  Sometimes, I just use one of the seat covers from the Ladies Room.  They work!

RE-APPLY:

The problem with blotting is that you often lose your make-up.  The Rice Paper is more forgiving, because it has powder on it.  But, if you are using seat covers, you need to re-apply.  Do not make the mistake of using pressed powder.  The shine will disappear for a short while and then come back with a vengeance.  Pressed powder contains oil and it’s an enemy to acne-prone skin.

Instead, carry some loose powder in a Tupperware container OR if you have a small purse, try this trick: at home, dip your powder brush in the loose powder and don’t shake off the excess.  Put the whole brush in a small Ziploc bag and bring it with you.

ZAP THOSE ZITS:

It also helps to attack the problem at the root.  My skin has been a lot better since I started using Proactiv.  You can start using the 4 Piece Oil Control System for only $24.95 a month.  It includes the Proactiv cleanser, toner, repairing lotion, and Daily Oil Control.  The Daily Oil Control can be smoothed on daily to help control oil and shine.

SAVE YOUR SKIN AND THE EARTH:

We’ve all heard it, but don’t forget to drink water.  Other beverages may sound tempting, but nothing hydrates and purifies like H2O.  Your skin will thank you and your whole body will reap the benefits.  I just bought this awesome Gaiam aluminum water bottle at Target.  This type of re-usable water bottle cuts down on the waste that comes from using plastic water bottles.

If you have any great tricks for beautiful summer skin, please share!

I have also seen the oposite, girls using so much powder in their faces they look like geishas ready for their dance.

A little glow in your face is a sign of a healthy skin and that you are hidrating yourself, but if you look to oily silk then that could be a problem, genes play a big role on our skins also.

That's true, Happy. Too much powder and it can look really unnatural! A little glow is good :)

I agree with you too Happy! Too much powder just screams "Cake Face" to me. I think the key to summer time beauty is to just keep it light. I use just enough bronzer to give that little glow that Sarah mentions and I'm out the door! I live in Florida and its summer all year round! And drinking water consistently will help your skin as well!

Here in PA the summers have unforgiving humidity! I have been a long time fan of blotting papers and powder. I prefer translucent powder in the loose form as it seems to give the lightest most natural touch.

For zits, the only product that's ever worked for me is DHC's Acne Spot Therapy. It's amazing.

Excellent tips, Sarah... looking forward to your next post! :)
