User post: The Miss USA girls need makeunders

Has anyone seen the pictures of the Miss USA contestants on Yahoo! News? I have, and in my opinion, those girls need to have those countless layers of makeup wiped off their faces. The way they're painted up is ridiculous; many of them look like they could be working the street corner. How can the stylists behind the show responsible for making the contestants look good want to smear their faces with layers and layers of face paint, faces that I'm sure look absolutely gorgeous when there isn't nearly as much makeup on them, and additionally, have their photos screaming "LOOK AT ALL THE MAKEUP I HAVE ON MY FACE!"? With many of those photos, it took me a couple of minutes to see past all the makeup to the young woman underneath. Didn't that look cease being known as attractive decades ago?

Edit: I am talking specifically about the PHOTOS (below is the link to them), not the women being onstage and in front of a video camera.

Haha -I *hadn't* seen them... until you created this thread. :p

Miss Montana (to me) looks somewhat "manly" in the face.

Miss Idaho and Miss Iowa are very pretty. They have that "girl next door" look.

I can't help but think that they all look alike, lol.

I'm very secure with myself in that I CAN admit when I see a hot or, pretty girl.

Then again, for 4 years I made my living in the porn/phone sex industry. Viewing hot or, hot and naked women is something that doesn't even phase me anymore, lol.

I totally agree with you. The makeup sometimes can be over the top. However, they're all beautiful women, but what I don't understand is how do the judges pick that special 1 out of all the the many different faces?

I also have'nt seen them but they all looks preety, specially if you have nice make-up, coz it helps you impove the natural beauty. And the judges already knew which of them is the best one, b'coz they have criteria for judging.

I thought the ladies were beautiful, with the make-up. What bores me is when women wear no make-up thinking they look better or just as good. No way, it has never been that way and sorry girls, it never will be. Women will always find a way to enhance their look. If you don't wear make-up, good for you, as long as that is what you want to look like you have that right. Those of us that do know the truth.

Being as my daughter was Miss Iowa in the Miss America pageant

I know why the girls wear so much make up. Its the lights and

how the people in the audience see you. Some do go overboard

though. There was a girl in one of the local pageants who wore

no makeup, from the audience you couldnt see her up on stage.

    Same way actors wear makeup.

I know, pageamts, make-up, the whole thing. But honestly, I'd love to know what those ladies put themselves through to look like that. I watched the pageant last night and the bikini competetion was nothing but one flawless body after another. No bikini bumps, no bumps anywhere, zero body fat, healthy faces and big boobs. Whenever I lose weight my boobs go with it and I'm an A cup to begin with.

I actually lived with a pageant girl in college and she really was smart, friendly and naturally a pretty girl who had tiny bone structure. I also was in pageants when I was younger and the girls I competed with were bulemic, as in drikning a gallon of milk and eating eveything off the McDonald's breakfast menu, puking and then looking amazing in their swimsuit.

I like their white 'kini's and strappy heels :)

I agree that they are probably beautiful without make up, but a lot of make up is one of the styles now, it's just the same as how most of them wear their hair in loose waves/curls. I have 12 female cousins/sisters all between the ages of 18 and 24 and they all wear at least that much make up. I also agree with the comment above, I had friends who were in the high school play, and they wore almost that much make up even if they were just in the chorus, if they didn't they looked totally washed out.

Fist off just a little history the Miss America pagent started in 1921 and thru time they have ALWAYS worn tons of make-up! (the miss america pagent is a major American tradition just like baseball.) The point of this is so that they can be seen on stage just like another poster said, they wouldn't look good under all those lights and NO-ONE looks good on camera without make-up. These girls have hired the "best in the buisness" pagent coaches that see to everything from exercise to wardrobe, to what they are eating, and how much sleep they are getting. In the end it is worth it to get not only scholarships(the pagent is the largest provider of scholarships for women) but the experience of what it takes to be an ambassador of good will!! Come on are we really going to give up tradition? The America I once knew is slowly deteriorating and it will be a very sad day when we get rid of a tradition just because someone says "its boring", well so is watching baseball but I still wouldn't give it up!
