Update your look with these easy makeup tips

Weekly celebrity tabloids are
a guilty pleasure of mine, and as I flip through the pages I'm
always wondering how the stars look so great, even when they're
running errands or doing otherwise mundane tasks. Their clothes
aren't much different than mine, and they aren't all made
up or blown out. So what's the secret? One way the stars manage
to look fresh both on the red carpet and off isn't really a
beauty secret at all, it's simply a matter of
staying on trend. (Pictured here:
Twilight's
Rachelle Lefevre rocking the
blue
eyeshadow look.) Keeping current with the latest colors
can make an old outfit look new, and give you a fresh-faced
appearance in just a few minutes flat.
Nails
I'm a big believer in the power of a manicure. Somehow, groomed
nails make an impact on any ensemble, whether you're going for
a sophisticated or edgy look. On the classic side, a pale pink will
never go out of style, but wearing the latest shade on your nails
gives your look an instant update. This summer, we're seeing a
lot of bold colors for the nails, from
glitter polishes to fluorescent
hues, and nail color is a great way to experiment, since a
manicure is virtually commitment-free. Even if you hate the color,
just take off the polish and put on a coat of clear. You're
still left with freshly shaped nails and smooth cuticles that tell
the world you care about your appearance. One to
try: Essie "Flirty Fuscia" from the
Neon Collection. $8, amazon.com
Eyes
Say
bye-bye to your
neutrals and browns, and have fun with your eye makeup this summer.
Playing with color doesn't necessarily translate to a heavy
look, as long as you do it right. Try a boldly colored shadow in
blue or green, and lightly sweep over your lid for a little pop of
color. Summer is the perfect time to try a cream shadow since
it's more likely to stay put and you can build the intensity by
layering it on. To dial up the drama, line your upper and lower
lids with a similarly colored liner. (Pictured above)

One to try: Nars Cream Shadow in
"Carioca" (turquoise) or "Nomad" (moss green).

Lips
Any trendsetter - or
trendwatcher - knows that the lips are possibly the best place to
experiment. This season's bold pinks, peaches and oranges can
be worn as a tinted gloss or a rich lipstick - and just about
anywhere in between. For the subtlest look, go with a
tinted gloss in one of the season's hottest
colors. If you feel a little more daring, color your lips with a
coordinating liner and top with a light gloss. For the most
dramatic effect, go with a full-on lipstick, but get ready to
attract attention.
One to try: Clinique Superbalm
Moisturizing Gloss in "Raspberry".

So now that you're armed with the best ways to freshen up
your look, it's up to you to decide whether or not to share
your latest beauty secret!
