Would you photoshop your own pictures?

Many people object to magazines Photoshopping images of models and celebrities, but what about modifying your own photos? You may not like to see a Ralph Lauren model's waist airbrushed, but would you happily take a few inches off your own tummy if given the chance? Or what about making your hair look shinier, and your face a little less wrinkly? Then you could erase the big zit you had that day, enhance your cleavage, and make your lipstick a little more red. Wait, does that even look like you anymore?

Adobe's Photoshop program has been available to consumers for years, but only recently has it become more user friendly and accessible. Photoshop.com's mobile application now allows people with iPhones, the new Google phones, and smart phones like T-Mobile's MyTouch and the Motorola Droid to edit pictures directly on their devices. You can soften photos and adjust the colors immediately, and then set as a background or send to a friend.

While advertisements and magazines may be presenting false representations of women, would you ever be tempted to adjust your own photos? And if you did, would you ever tell anyone that you edited them? [StyleList]

I don't own Photoshop or will ever consider altering an image of me unless it was for a joke. I think it's really embarrassing to post pictures of yourself and enhance your looks. Why? Well, what about when people see you in real life? You're not going to look like that. Might as well show that "what you see, is what you get",

I photoshopped a pimple out once. Other than that I try to be really honest about my photos.

i do it all the time, and there's nothing wrong with a little re-touching. It's ok as long as you're not altering your body and making yourself look skinny and smaller, when in reality, you're not, but there's nothing wrong with photoshopping your photos by lightening up the photos a little

If it's imperfect, I photoshop it.

Would I change what I look like to make myself skinnier or my skin clearer? No. Do I try to maximize light, shading, and other effects to portray myself better - hell yes! Photoshop is an important tool to make yourself, your kids, and your vacation photos look better.

I definitely agree with Joy on this one. I would use it to make the overall picture look better. Would I use it to seriously alter how I look? Probably not.

I don't have photoshop at the moment but when I did I used it to enhance colors, make photos more artistic, and to edit out the occasional giant pimple. I never changed anything drastic, never made myself look thinner or changed the shape of my face, or made my hair look shinier. I am who I am, flaws and all. I can do basically the same things I did with photoshop on iphoto on my macbook pro. I want my photos to look like me, but I don't think editing out a pimple or messing with the contrast or brightness is unethical. What's unethical is what advertisers do, they take out every single "flaw" these models have in order to make them appear as if they were pinnacles of perfection and us lesser mortals should bask in their perfectness. Many times they look fake, as if they are plastic. We, as women, need to learn to love ourselves as we are. No one is perfect. I prefer to see a photos that look more real, especially in advertising. It is way easier to relate to a clothing ad if the woman in it doesn't look like she's this perfect alien from Planet Perfect.

I agree with Joy... as long as it's still me and people know it what's wrong with adding a little glow. The big difference is I'm not using this to make money off of it, it's just for personal use and pamper my ego hehe ;)
