Earth Day's here: Change your life for the greener

Tuesday, April 22, is Earth Day, so you're sure to hear a lot about climate change, clean energy, and the like over the weekend. It's all pretty overwhelming, especially if you're trying to figure out how to change you and your family's lives to be a bit more Earth-conscious.

Well, the editors of Shine are busy women just like you, and we understand it's not easy to keep things "green" as we juggle all we do. But we also know that, if the strong-minded women of the world don't do something to save the planet, then we're all screwed!

So, over the last week, we've put up a few posts that we hope will make this whole green thing simpler to adopt into everyday living. Check them out, and make those little changes that make a big difference:

Also, our friends at Yahoo! Green have put together fantastic Earth Day guide to Freecycling, the fantastic new trend of giving stuff you don't want anymore to other folks who want it rather than putting it into a landfill. Now there's a green change that may even save you some money!

Now, ladies, go forth and be greener!

Do you have suggestions for how you greened up your home, family, and self, tell us in the comments below!

Going green is actually really easy. Most eco-friendly things are cost effective, if not immediately then in the long run. Everyone have a good Earth Day and hopefully what we all do will be long lasting.

Green is fun at my school we made earth day bags so the customers at Food Lion and Harris Teeter would get drawings on their paper bags on earth day.

My son and I have been 'green' for years. We compost yard and kitchen scraps, recycle everything we can and use environmentally friendly cleaners like vinegar, baking soda, borax, peroxide, etc.

We try hard not to use chemicals.

We have found that having a small flock of chickens is great for helping the garden while controling bad bugs AND mosquitoes so this is much better than spraying. We have noticed that since our county sprays for mosquitoes that the trees and bushes are all dying off that are close to the road all over our county- any suggestions on how to get counties to use natural methods?

Anyway, we are so dedicated to doing whatever we can to help the environment that we have also created some sites to help others to learn more aboutby seeing some great free video's and we are adding articles as we can.

Here are some of what we have ready and we hope that this will help more of you to start doing what you can to help save the planet :0)

    Save The Planet

    http://mojovideoworld.com/edu/savetheplanet

    Solar Power

    http://mojovideoworld.com/edu/solar

Since Solar is better for the environment than using coal and Michigan is trying to build 7 new coal plants we have created a website about

    Coal Pollution

    http://mojovideoworld.com/edu/coalpollution

    Electric Cars

    http://mojovideoworld.com/edu/electriccar

    http://mojovideoworld.com/edu/electriccars

    http://mojovideoworld.com/edu/electric-cars

    Recycling

    http://mojovideoworld.com/edu/recycle

    Altenative Fuels

    http://mojovideoworld.com/edu/altfuels

    Water for Fuel for Cars

    http://mojovideoworld.com/edu/watercars

    Geothermal

    http://mojovideoworld.com/edu/geothermal

We think that this covers a large part of what we can all do to help the environment but as we think of more we will be creating new sites.

If everyone would do SOMETHING (every day not just on Earth Day) we could all do Amazing Things to Save Our Planet!!!

Temenda idea! Terrific idea! I love this page, it is like having a magazine at hand whenever you want to read one. I am a school teacher, so I am very glad that I found this page with such interesting and varied information. My students will be glad, too.

Our company www.whatsurbag-usa.com is about to debut at the

www.gogreenexpo.com in NYC on the last week end of April. We make reusable shopping bags that are flexible fashionable and socially

concious. All of our bags are made in New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina Survivors. In fact all of our vendors are outsourced there. We wanted to give new business and jobs to a struggling economy in New Orleans . Our bags hold twice as much as a plastic bag because they are flexible and they bounce when you walk so whatever you are carrying seems lighter. The website is not done yet but we are almost ready to hit the streets. Stay tuned! Joan Elmore

PS part of our proceeds go to Hope House in New Orleans a charity that feeds, trains and helps the homeless find housing. You can see the bags at www.whatsurbag-usa.com
