Earth Day's here: Change your life for the greener
editor
Tuesday, April 22, is Earth Day, so you're sure to hear a lot about climate change, clean energy, and the like over the weekend. It's all pretty overwhelming, especially if you're trying to figure out how to change you and your family's lives to be a bit more Earth-conscious.
Well, the editors of Shine are busy women just like you, and we understand it's not easy to keep things "green" as we juggle all we do. But we also know that, if the strong-minded women of the world don't do something to save the planet, then we're all screwed!
So, over the last week, we've put up a few posts that we hope will make this whole green thing simpler to adopt into everyday living. Check them out, and make those little changes that make a big difference:
Also, our friends at
Yahoo! Green have put together fantastic
Earth Day guide to Freecycling, the fantastic new trend of giving stuff you don't want anymore to other folks who want it rather than putting it into a landfill. Now there's a green change that may even save you some money!
Now, ladies, go forth and be greener!
Do you have suggestions for how you greened up your home, family, and self, tell us in the comments below!

I am all for cleaning our up our Mother Earth, after all it is the only one we have.
Until the public take the proverbial bull by the horns and force major industry to comply with pollution controls worldwide nothing much is going to happen.
In the U.K. we have been on this GREEN kick since 1973 and the world has gotten worse not better. WHY ??
When nations refuse to answer the call to clean up their acts, and they pollute all the more what can one do.
I live in the USA and have for 18 years, all I have seen is this country thumb it's nose at the rest of world on this issue. Why won't the petroleum industry make the neccessary changes to make their refineries cleaner for the environment and ultimately US ??.
What happened to the KYOTO ACCORD for a cleaner earth.
Their isn't enough global population to combat via green practices the effects of this one major industry in this country.
It had been stated that if the world was to stop using fossil fuels and generally polluting it would take Mother Earth at least 100 years to clean the environment.
If you are going to do something then DO IT, don't profess to doing something when in reality nothing is being done.

I am so excited—I was trying to think of a way to go more greener (is that right?) or just go “uber green” in our home, I know we need to do it, just follow simple steps and just when we thought we could not, my 8th grader joined an Environmental Club at his school.
Their first project was to take over the dumpster from the city that sorts the paper & plastics. They then participated in the Coastal Cleanup. His picture just came out in the paper today.
The coolest thing is that our town is now going to convert our trash into bio-fuel. I know that this is not something new, just new to us that our rual town is actually taking steps to doing something that could help statewide/worldwide.
When you get your kids excited, you get excited and it’s easy. Just like someone else said in their blog, take it one step at a time! ;)
