A Night in With July 4th Flicks

Want to feel warm and fuzzy about America, freedom, lawyers working for justice, raising kids with values, and all that good stuff? To Kill a Mockingbird will warm the cockles of your heart as the cleft-chinned Gregory Peck defends an innocent man against a spurious rape charge in this racially charged story set in the Depression. Peck plays Atticus Finch, voted AFI's top hero in 100 years of film, in the film adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Harper Lee. When he's not working for justice, Finch teaches his kids, tomboy Scout and son Jem, life lessons like, "You never know someone, until you step inside their skin and walk around a little."     I disagree. If your idea of a good July 4th is watching someone suffer based on his race, I'll pass on whatever the rest of your opinions may be.
