Dr. Drew Pinsky takes on Tom Cruise!

Dr. Drew Pinksy, the host of VH1's Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, has taken it upon himself to publicly diagnose Tom Cruise… and it hasn’t gone over well. "A lot of people in the public eye who behave strangely have mental illness we can learn from, and much of it is based on childhood trauma, without a doubt," says Pinksy. "Take a guy like Tom Cruise. Why would somebody be drawn into a cultish kind of environment like Scientology? To me, that's a function of a very deep emptiness and suggests serious neglect in childhood – maybe some abuse, but mostly neglect."

Cruise’s lawyer fought back, saying: "This unqualified television performer who is obviously just looking for notoriety is so grotesquely unprofessional as to pretend to diagnose Tom and others without ever meeting them.” Well, he sort of has a point, but he is a doctor, so he’s entitled to his opinion. Cruise’s lawyer continues, "He seems to be spewing the absurdity that all Scientologists are mentally ill."

We feel this is a bit of a stretch, erratic behavior and apparent robot personality doesn’t always equal mentally ill… [People]

Go Dr. Drew! It'd be funny to see him on Celebrity Rehab. Yeah, it's a stretch but again, we're talking about TOM CRUISE. You can stretch it for him.

I THINK DR. DREW IS RIGHT ON THE MONEY! CRUISE'S ATTORNEY IS IN MY OPINION A WHACK JOB TO. CRUISE THINKS HE KNOWS MORE ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES THAN ANYONE ON (OUR PLANET). I WILL NEVER FORGET HIS MANIC BEHAVIOR ON OPRAH'S SHOW. WHEN I AM MANIC I, LIKE A LOT OF FOLKS DO, GO SHOPPING. THEN I GO BACK TO MY CAVE. I NEED ANTIDEPRESSANTS AND TOOK OFFENSE TO MR. CRUISE'S REMARKS ON THAT SUBJECT. I DON'T KNOW HOW HIS FAMILY AND CLOSE FRIENDS CAN STAND TO PUT UP WITH HIS SUPERIOR SELF. ONE DAY HE WILL EAT CROW BIG TIME. TAKE IT FROM TOOTS.......

But Tom Cruise can state publicly that postpartum depression doesn't really exist and can be treated with vitamins? And that anyone who disagrees with him has been brainwashed?

If TC can offer his unsolicited opinion, so can anyone else.

its such a hypocritical move. tom cruise constantly states his opinion publicly and on other people's issues. but once somebody challenges him he can't take it!

i would take DOCTOR drew's opinion more seriously than brainwashed tom's any day!

“(Miley Cyrus) is just a little too tarty, forgive me. I don’t want her to look like she’s going into a convent school, but it’s just a little too much for a 15-year-old,” - Tim Gunn of "Project Runway"
