Entitled "The Goonies Switcheroo," he pontificates on this great movie of the 80s:
"In the case of The Goonies, a band of awkward, socially outcast kids set off to find a buried treasure, narrowly averting almost certain death and outrunning, among others, a popular high school jock named Troy....Ask yourself: with whom do you identify more these days, Troy or the Goonies? And if you're reading this and you happen to be an Internet ----- -talker, could it be because you think I'm Troy? Because honest to God, I've always fancied myself a Goonie; the underdog who toppled over the narrow-minded naysayers and walked away with a treasure."
It seems that John fancies himself an outcast, rather than a wealthy musician who makes a lot of money and bones famous, beautiful woman. Are we supposed to buy this? Would a true Goonie wear designer clothes and make ridiculous orgasmic faces when playing a guitar? Can you see Chunk ever dating Jennifer Love Hewitt, or Data sporting a really bad tribal tattoo? He wishes he could be a Goonie, and perhaps he was in a past awkward adolescent phase, but I suspect him as a Troy through and through.
Still, Mayer wins a little piece of my heart for even taking the time to discuss the topic of The Goonies. It's a good movie. GOONIES NEVER SAY DIE! [JohnMayer]
