What I think about "My Super Sweet Sixteen"

So I was running out of things to order on Netflix and I came across the MTV show My Super Sweet Sixteen. I used to really like that show when it first aired so I decided that I should get the DVDs. After watching the episodes now, I've made a couple of observations about the girls (and boy) that had their super sweet sixteen parties. The first is that, obviously, they should be lined up and shot. The second is that almost of them have parents that are divorced. I think that made the parents feel like they should give a little bit extra to make up for not staying together. So they over-indulged (spoiled) their kids with money and clothes and cars and jets and parties. Don't get me wrong, I also got a car when I was sixteen and had a fairly nice sixteenth birthday, but what pisses me off about these kids is that they have this attitude of entitlement. A lot of the girls ended their shows with "the party cost more than my parent's wedding" or "the party was half a million dollars and "but I deserve it." Now the thoughts that run through my head are, what the heck makes you think you deserve it? They spent the entire hour yelling at their parents and whining about not getting everything they want. They all took joy in flying to other parts of the world to find their perfect dresses and excluding certain people. What did they do makes them so special. The truth is, I think this show is everything that's wrong with a lot of American kids today. They think they deserve everything and don't want to work for it. I'd like to drop them off in the middle of Africa without their parents money and see how long they last, how long they feel pretty and special.

    omg !!!!!!!!!!!!

I know what you are talking about; these kids are annoying and stupid. I think the problem with today youth; is the parents. why do parents give into the childrens demands; don't the parents know how to say no!! Did parents forget how to say NO.

amen to EVERYTHING you just said. even for some people who are less fortunate in this country, imagine how it is in other countries where more than 1/2 the population is under the proverty class.

but as for those kids the parents are to blame. who knew some parents can be such idiots. i really do think that rich kids (any honestly, whether they are humble or not) should go to place like somalia and see how grateful they should be instead of complaining for something they want. after all they already have the money to take the trip. instead of going to mexico how about give some money to charity. it'll go to good use at least.

I just saw that show last night....and I was thinking the same thing!!! It is just ridiculous the amount of money that these parents spend on a sixteen year old child"s party. There are so many less fortunate

people living in there own backyard.

You are completely on point, truer words have never been written! You may (or depending how the show is, may not) appreciate that MTV is spinning the Sweet 16 concept into a new show called "EXILED". The object is to send some of the most "memorable" (i.e.bratty) party kids to remote parts of the world to live in poverty for a week, and they will indeed be living in 3rd world villages with host families. It actually looks interesting. Although sadly, I have to admit one of the girls was being less than kind to the people in the African village where she was sent. It made me embarrased to be a westerner from a developed nation when ill-mannered young people like that are all we have to show for it.

I've never been able to watch more than 15 seconds of that show ever. Why things like that ever hit airwaves, I'll never know. Looking forward to that show EXILED though....

I completely agree. They are trying to say that Juno glamorizes teen pregnancy (which I disagree with), I think that Super Sweet Sixteen glamorizes talking back to your parents, yelling at them and whining till you get your way. If I had EVER raised my voice like that to my parents or put on the air of entitlement the party would be cancelled immediately. These kids are jerks, but just like teen pregnancy we need to blame the parents first before we blame society or movies.

The first season showed teenagers who were grateful and excited about what their parents was doing for them but after the second season it became a MESS.You can turn to it and know what will happen next. They are rich, spoiled kids whose parents can't afford to buy them themthe world. They start off wanting a car and thier parents say they cant have them but toward the end they end up with the car of thier dreams and an artist of their choice.
