6 Skinny Cheeses That Taste Creamy

Determined to lose a few pounds but already feeling cranky and deprived? Take a cheese break. There’s nothing like cheese to make you feel like you’re not on a diet. And there are lots of low-fat varieties -- they’re just not all worth eating. But these 6 are. We know. The RealAge staff taste-tested dozens to find them. What’s more, there’s evidence that the calcium, protein, and other goodies in low-fat cheese (and other low-fat dairy foods) can actually help you lose weight, nourish your bones, lower your blood pressure, and reduce your risk of diabetes. End of bad mood, beginning of new body!

BEST SPREAD
Boursin Light
A homerun for cheese fans and garlic lovers alike. Just a schmear of this creamy spread goes a long way on a whole-wheat cracker or slice of baguette.

BEST CRUMBLES
Trader Joe’s Fat- Free Feta
These moist, cheesy crumbles make a perfect final flourish for a baby spinach salad tossed with berries, walnuts, and balsamic vinaigrette.
1 ounce: 35 calories, 0g fat ( 0g saturated), 5g protein, 10% DV calcium
Treasure Cave Reduced Fat Crumbled Blue Cheese Great on salads and burgers yet has roughly half the fat of regular blue cheese. As with all blues, you must be a fan of salty and stinky to enjoy this one. Lucky for us, we are!

BEST SNACKS
Mini Babybel Light
These rounds of creamy, semi-soft cheese are perfect with a handful of grapes and a couple almonds.

BEST SLICES
Jarlsberg Lite
Replace your usual Swiss slices with these thin, deli-style slices -- they have a mild, slightly nutty flavor and an almost sweet aftertaste.
1 ounce: 70 calories, 4g fat, 2g saturated fat, 9g protein, 25% DV calcium
Sargento Reduced Fat Provolone This mild Italian favorite maintains a nice buttery taste with a minimal amount of fat.
1 slice: 50 calories, 3.5g fat (2g saturated), 5g protein, 15% DV calcium

BEST FRINGE BENEFIT
Need another reason (besides fitting into your skinny jeans) to swap full-fat cheese for lower-fat choices? Try this: Eating a diet low in saturated fats (and trans fats too) can make your RealAge as much as 6 years younger.

Nutrasystems, Southbeach--they're just scams to sell you their overpriced TV dinners. Probably better than most frozen-food-in-a-box, but still just frozen-food-in-a-box. Real food, like fresh veggies and a little fresh meat is much better for you, and tastes much better too. If you don't know how to cook anything, just look online. There's millions of good recipes out there. I didn't know how to cook much, so I started spending an hour or two every couple of weeks browsing recipe sites. Now, I have a whole arsenal of good recipes to choose from. Some of them are not super-healthy, but most are. And I now impress my friends with how tasty my cooking is. It's amazing what you can do with fresh ingredients and a well-stocked spice cabinet.

Thanks for the tips REALAGE; however, I feel for those who have to try those WW, NS, etc. diets. I eat what I want, although I eat right. I do not feel deprived, and I take walks and stretch nightly. I also have people tell me I do not look my age, but that is not why I do it - it is because I REALLY DO ENJOY eating healty. Sometimes I don't know what it is, and REALAGE has helped. Since college after gaining my "frosh 10", and lost it over the summer eating apples rather than goodies, etc., I have been eating "healthy" (I am 49). Take good care of my skin, eat lost of veggies, fruits, drink vita-water or just water when thirsty (which is often), don't drink alcohol or smoke, and feel great. I saw my mom struggle with WW, and other diets, only to throw money away on pre-prepared meals. (It was the ice cream, whole pints at night, which got/gets her. Now, she starves herself drinking coffee and smoking cigrattes during the day to avoid eating just for that ice cream at nights.) It makes me sad, but she won't listen to me. Today I made multigrain pancakes w/green apples in them (and a "touch" of real maple syrup). No, she wouldn't eat them. I am no saint, but I do thank REALAGE for helping give me new ideas and am glad I feel good. Have felt and eaten like this since that 10 lb. loss - between 120-125 and 5'7". Just wondering, to those who use the diets with pre-pared meals, stay eating them forever, or learn how to keep it off "forever" (i.e. until now)? I heard WW is best, but those I know work at it, weighing the meat, etc. then after a few mos., go back. My two girls are the same, one in college - but more into the team sports. I have to work, but see how many REALLY obese people there are out there daily, many young. Again, thanks REALAGE for any help you give me and others.

Thanks for your insight Steve, but I am a great cook, I have been all over the world and traded recipies with chefs from five different countries. Sometimes you just need to have it taken out of your hands to get you started. I just happen to enjoy my cooking a little too much. As I said before, good luck and happiness to all!!

never heard such a thing about cheese, but who knows just might work, any thing is worth a try, and boiled water where I live all you have to do is leave your water in the car a few hours and it will be boiled so I guess in that since I have had boiled water before

sorry ladies, i all my years on earth i've yet to see too many of you that don't drive around the mall or grocery parking lot a few times looking for the spot that'll get you closer. then all i see and hear is complaining about how big your butt is and, how you need to lose weight. you'll sacrifice quality and taste for lower cals, fat and carbs for all this. the only one you're fooling is yourself. i've yet to see a society that eats more diet crap and still has major "junk in the trunk" get off your fat butts and park a little further away. both you and that gas guzzling mini van or suv will be in better shape
