Calorie counts for your favorite fast foods—exposed!

I have a love/hate relationship with calorieking.com. While it’s great to learn that I should sooner drink sour milk than brave Applebee's “riblets” (clocking in at 2,027 calories and 130 grams of fat), I don’t really want to know that my beloved Starbucks grande mocha has 12 grams of fat. Sometimes knowledge is power but other times it's a big fat wet blanket. Guess I’ll be downsizing to the tall mocha. Sigh.

In an effort to keep you informed here’s the nutrition deal for signature dishes at the top 13 chain restaurants.

Oh, and if you’re on the run, calorieking.com is now mobile!: http://mobile.calorieking.com

    Hi Maggie,

I just came across your blog and I love it! I will have to make it part of my daily blog reading.

I actually work for a production company that produces how-to video recipes. You can find our Holiday Kitchen series at holidaykitchen.tv, and we are currently gearing up for a summer kitchen series.

(Sorry that I have to put this all on your blog) I was wondering if Shine takes any form of video recipes? and if so, would they be interested in our summer kitchen series.

    Thanks!

    Hey there!

I would love to see your video. Why don't you create a user blog and include the video in the blog. If it will be helpful and engaging to our user, i would love to feature it!

    Best,

    -Maggie

    Hi Maggie,

Oops! The McDonald's Big Mac meal came out as 161 calories -- I'm sure that is a typo as it's way more than that.

    Just lettin' you know!

I agree susie q, I saw the calorie count for the Big Mac meal and had to rub my eyes to make sure it wasn't my stomach reading it instead of my eyes.

I agree calorie count on big mac meal has to be wrong! So what is the correct number? How can we get calorie counts on other things at different fast food places?

    Hey mama_cookie (nice name ;)

Most restaurants have the information on their website. Or if you just google the name of the restaurant and "calories" or "nutrition information" you can find it that way. It's eye-opening, that's for sure!

Most fast food places have a nutrition chart although it is almost hidden. Look for it behind above a trash can at the end of where you make the lines, on the hallway leading to restrooms, above a trash can. It is never very visible. I always check them and choose, for example, the smallest burger with the least calories. I eat it slowly, enjoy it, and even when I know it is not a small cheeseburger is not the same as a Triple Texas Whopper, for example, it will satisfy my craving, and I will not feel guilty. You don't have to think about it: Small cheeseburger with small onion rings: 400 calories OR Triple Texas Whopper with big french fries: 1800. The size of our serving is OUR choice.

That is why I get the Skinny Vanilla Latte whenever I go to Starbucks... much fewer calories. It really takes a lot of discipline to get away from those evil fast foods.
