Fancy olive oil: worth the money?

I’m sure you’ve noticed that while some olive oil can be procured at the local supermarket for about five bucks a bottle, other options (often packaged in very pretty bottles suitable for flower arrangements) can cost more than a bunch of venti lattes and a good bottle of wine.

Green Table Blogger, Alexandra Guarnaschelli, provides some pretty useful tips to consider next time you’re out olive oil shopping. To wit: olive oils labeled “first cold pressing” or “extra virgin,” are worth more money because they’re difficult to make and taste the best. However, you don’t need to douse everything you cook with EVO—just use it for raw food preparations and alongside ingredients that won’t overpower it. Use cheaper stuff like canola oil when doing any high heat cooking because olive oil has a lower smoking point. And “light” olive oil, “pumace” olive oils and “pure” olive oil are all a crock—don’t waste your money on them (instead why not blow it on a bottle of wine and/or a week’s supply of lattes?).

If you want to cut the cost of fancy flavored olive oil, then just DIY. Here's a recipe for rosemary and parsley flavored olive oil.

Debunker’s verdict: Some olive oils are better than others—spend accordingly.

The canola oil legend is false (see the snopes addy posted by imdamom55@sbcglobal.net) This oil is widely known to have cholestrol-lowering properties, and really has less flavor than most vegetable oils, just cook at a lower temperature.

Olive oils do have flavors, and some of the more expensive ones have richer flavors than the cheaper ones. Don't use extra virgin in your cooking, though, as it's wonderful flavors are ruined in the heat - use regular for the cooking and the extra virgin in your dressings and post-cooking basting. I buy moderately priced extra virgin for its richer flavor, but for everyday cooking I use less-expensive name brands (I don't buy store-brand olive oils after a bad experience with one going bad within a week of opening it). Usually I get one on sale or if I have a coupon (or both if I am really lucky!), and buy more than one to make sure I don't run out before I can get some again. I get my nicer extra virgin oils at specialty stores, usually, or the better brands at the grocery store if I have to. I brought some back with me from Greece the last time I went and it was like gold to me - so yummy.

Don't be afraid of canola oil though. I use it in all of my Asian-style dishes rather than the olive oil and rather than just the higher fat and cholestrol peanut and sesame oils. I put enough of the peanut or sesame oils in my dishes to add flavor right at the end of cooking, but not as the basic oils. Canola oil doesn't interfere with the many spices I put in my Asian-style dishes like olive oil can.

My girlfriend´s twat tastes so good with a dribble of extra virgin olive oil. The naturally consistent texture and taste mean that I can enjoy the freshness of a garden salad and the suculent meatiness a true c--- ivore dreams of.

Have tried canola, light, cooking oil and shoving a Snikers bar into her, but nothing comes close to the kind of freshness I feel when the old friend XVO is brought out.

Thank you the man who invented olives. My girlfriend has become a slut-galore because of natural foods.

All you lebo´s out there try a healthy dosing of XVO on a stiff dick and you´ll be cured in a jiffy.

Thanks Nobbo, I´m a 45 year lesbian and feel the pain of all the other ugly unwanted women out there. When one reaches the age of 40, one realizes one may not receive the kind of attention one did in one´s 20´s. The suggestion of olive oil on a stiff dick seems quite repugnant to me but I will ignore that.

What brand of oil did you use on your girlfriend and was she under any sort of alcohol / depressents? My partner is willing but not a willing slut (tips on that?).

Natural food will always be superior to supermarket bought produce.
