Garlicky Breadsticks

I love breadsticks. If I could, I'd make a meal out of them. Garlicky, cheesey, crisp on the outside but soft on the inside breadsticks are, for me, a perfect food. And what better to pair with some delicious spaghetti than some equally delicious breadsticks?

I was amazed at how easy these breadsticks were to make. Yeast bread has always seemed intimidating to me, so I expected these to be difficult to mix, take forever to rise... boy, was I wrong. These were so incredibly easy, I had dinner on the table in no time!

I found this recipe over on Angies Pangies. Go check out her post... the story about her husband making the breadsticks is hilarious!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup canola or vegetable oil
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons yeast
  • Garlic salt
  • Shredded Parmesan cheese

Cooking Directions

  1. Mix water, brown sugar, salt, oil, flour, and yeast.
  2. You can allow these to rise and punch them down once before you roll them out, if you desire, but it is not necessary.
  3. Roll out into a 10×12 inch rectangle on a floured surface.
  4. Use a butter knife, or a pastry cutter, and cut into strips about 3/4 inch wide.
  5. Give each strip a twist and place on a greased cookie sheet.
  6. Let rise for at least 20 minutes.
  7. Bake at 375 for 10-15 minutes.
  8. Brush with butter and sprinkle with garlic salt and parmesan cheese.
