How to Throw a Tailgating Party

It’s football season again! Regardless of whether you follow college teams, the NFL or both, if you can’t make it to the stadium on game day, there are plenty of ways you can bring the back-of-the-truck tailgating fun to your home. With lots of spirit, yummy finger foods, cold drinks and, of course, the much-anticipated game on TV, throwing a football-themed party has never been easier (or more fun!). WD has you covered with everything you need to throw the most successful sports get-together. From scrumptious recipes to helpful tips, check out our ultimate guide for hosting a party that is sure to be a touchdown.

Food Musts
For this type of party, appetizer and finger-food recipes are the easiest to prepare and serve. Set up the snacks outside or buffet-style on a kitchen counter or dining room table—making sure to refill them periodically throughout the game. The traditional fare of dips, chicken wings and snack mixes is always a safe bet, but we’ve also included a number of other WD recipes (in addition to the classics) that are perf
ect for munching on during the game.

Finger Food Recipes:
Buffalo Chicken Drumsticks
Chinese Chicken Wingettes
Chipotle-Orange BBQ Meatballs
Buffalo Potato Skins

Dip Recipes:
Baked Potato Dip
First-To-Go Texas Queso Dip
Guacamole
Best-Ever Onion Dip

Munchies Recipes:
Hot-Cheddar Stix
Sweet & Spicy Mixed Nuts
Savory Snack Mix
Chipotle Shrimp Cocktail Bites

Party Pointers
In addition to food, there are a few must-haves for your tailgating get-together. Make sure you stock up on the following:

1. You will need lots of ice and a few ice chests for serving drinks. You should have individual bottled water, soda and beer in the ice chest, making for easy access and a lot less cleanup later.
2. Portable radios and/or smaller TVs are good for placing throughout the house as well as outside, so guests don’t miss a minute of the game.
3. Sports decorations and paraphernalia always make fun additions to any party. For local or regional team items, check out stores in the area, and for classic football decor, try online party sites, like PlatesandNapkins.com or PartyCity.com. If you aren’t one for decorating, having spirited disposable plates, cups and napkins is an easy way to set the mood.
4. Outdoor furniture, such as foldable chairs and tables, are great for additional seating—both indoors and out.

Fun Extras
You’re almost ready, but to ensure your bash is the best, there a few more things you can

do to show your team spirit and keep guests occupied—especially during half-time and commercial breaks.

1. Decorate your truck or car with flags or magnets for the team you’re rooting for.
2. Beef up the wardrobe! Wear your team gear, including clothing, face paint, hats and more.
3. Provide games and activities to play, such as flag football, Frisbee or Cornhole (a.k.a. bean bag toss).

Wow people really have nothing better to do with their lives than hang out in a ... parking lot? Hmmm, painting your face and drinking beer in the back of your truck - classy.
