Women like mimosas.
This may sound like a wild sterotype, but it's true. If cocktails are called
for anytime before 5 o'clock, men tend to choose bloody marys while chicks go
for mimosas. There, I said it. Just last week I went to a baby shower and ended
up leaving mid-baby bingo—but not before noticing that every single lady
(including myself) was sipping a flute of the orange elixir. Makes sense,
right? It's light and looks great with Lilly Pulitzer.
So it got me thinking,
why not toast our mamas with a mimosa this Mother’s Day? Sure, it might stir up
a little acid reflux (oy, I sound like my grandmother) but I can’t think of a better occasion on which to enjoy such a
demure and ladylike cocktail.
In case you didn’t
know, a mimosa, which was invented at the Ritz in Paris in 1925 (according to wikipedia), is
composed of champagne (or a substituted sparkly vino) and orange juice. To be
precise, it's two parts OJ and three parts champagne. If you want to go champagne-free,
turn it into a fauxmosa with a lemon-lime soft drink.
Bottom line: Mimosas
are simply too good to be reserved for baby bingo.

The best Mimosa ever made, in my opinion, was one I had at the Boca Beach Club many years ago. They place a cube of sugar in the bottom of a flute add enough Triple Sec to cover then they poured a good quality champagne about 2/3 to the top then topped it with fresh squeezed orange juice. I've been making them this way for a long time - it is the best.

My friends and I are having a bridal recipe shower next week. We will be serving Mimosa's. We went to the local dollar store and purchased real glass flutes, and will give the bride 12 of them. We thought that would be a neat thing plus another gift.

Just what every bride wants ... Cheap, used, dirty champange flutes ... Please rethink this ...

Stick with scotch. Alcoholics drinking that early in the day are still alcoholics no matter how pretty the drink is. Abusing expensive alcohol is just like putting lipstick on pigs.

That sounds like a nice idea for your friends Bridal Shower. She will appreciate having flutes that she doesn't mind breaking for all the times she has you gals over to her house!
Also, just because they are from the dollar store doesn't mean that they are dirty.

Cheryl, you are an ass, plain and simple. I'm sure you don't have many friends, if any. Please, rethink *you* getting a life.

That is a nice idea. As always, it is the thought that counts. As for Negative Cheryl. Get a life, you snob.

Wow, you guys are cracking me up. Yeah, Cheryl, looks like you're in the minority here. I wouldn't at all mind getting a set of okay-to-break flutes that came with some great shower memories. I feel sorry for the people you consider friends, or are they as shallow as you are? On second thought, I'm sure they are...
ANYWAY... about the article... I loved it! I like mimosas alright, but I guess I'm with the guys on this one. I'm more apt to go for the Bloody Mary usually. :)
