More hypersexual food ads: Super Seven Inchers and “Holes”

Burger King

Burger King

After writing about the racy Carl's Jr. spots, Burger King's controversial Sir Mix-a-Lot commercial and overly suggestive celebrity alcohol ads we realize these sexed up campaigns are becoming a huge trend.

The latest ad that has people up in arms is for the new BK Super Seven Incher Sandwich, which claims via extremely phallic injury that "it'll blow your mind away." The small print on the bottom suggests you "fill your desire for something long, juicy and flame grilled." Are we talking about fellatio here, or eating a burger? Yikes. This Burger King ad is even more blunt than the recent Quizno's Toasty Torpedo commercials, where the oven talks to an employee telling him to "put it [the sandwich] in me."

And this isn't the last of it! Hardees has just begun a cringeworthy "Name our Holes" campaign (see below). Yes, holes. They're not donut holes, but rather tiny spheres of biscuit dough "rolled in

cinnamon and sugar and served with icing for dipping," and Hardee's wants some assistance coming up with what to call these little guys. Of course, the commercial is full of sexual innuendo, and we're sure the name they come up with will be loaded too. When does it end?

Do you think all the sexualized food ads are funny, or are they now crossing the line? [Gawker]

The fact that people are A) Blogging about it and B) commenting on said blog is evidence enough that the advertising style is effective. If feeds both the basic sexual desires of the majority of the viewing population as well as the desire to look down on those things others perceive as immoral. While the ads are neither creative nor intelligent they are undoubtedly well crafted and succeed in thier goals. Knowing that sexual innuendo in advertising has been used for over 100 years now, should you wish to stay away from it...read a book. They are entertaining little things with paper "pages" and "words" which stay on said "pages" evenb after you have read them, which one can do AT THIER OWN PACE!! You can even put one down without pressing pause and pick up right where you left off virtually anywhere and anytime!

just to point out marketing techniques, they want it to stick in your mind whether good or bad, if you remember it the person who set up the ad did their job and did it well. Why do you think taco bell has the most annoying music for their new commercial it is what you remember that sells not what you forgot.

It's amazing using sex to advertise something! No way this has been going on since the twenties, there can be no way.

This is just one example of how our morals are being lost in this country.Everything is about what you have, where you live, what you drive etc.Not to mention that we should pamper ourselves every chance we get.Whats going to happen when the lights go out people? We have made ourselves slaves to energy. And back to the main subject,I guess its all in your upbringing on how you feel about this filth.Alot of kids are raising themselves these days.No small wonder a good majority feels these things are ok.

Advertisers have been using "sex" to sell for years. Obviously if not brought to your attention like this website, you don't really think of it that way!!!! Pay closer attention to advertisements over the next few weeks and see how many others are out there. Seems like the ad men use either sex or stupidity (thank goodness the real Wendy is back) in their ads.

Hmm. I suppose flame grilling WOULD cause extremely phallic injury.

It's not that the people who are making these ads are dumb. They just are just having fun at the expense of the mass. It's no different than saying the masses are blind and stupid. Elitist attitude? Perhaps. Don't like it? Don't buy! It's a free country. People can market anything. It's up to you to control yourself. That's why obesity is a problem in this country.

It is absolutely amazing how puritanical American society can be! GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK! The ads that we see here in this country pale in comparison to what is seen in many European countries. The last time I recalled, EVERY television has a POWER button. Anyway, most American children watch far too much television. Any idiot knows that SEX SELLS! If it didn't, companies wouldn't continue to use suggestive ads that usually only adults get anyway! And what is the likelihood of the average pre-teen even paying close enough attention to pick up on the slight innuendoes of most of these commercials? Find something IMPORTANT to whine about! Jeez!
