Pomegranates; The Wonder Fruit

user

I've sort of been on a pomegranate kick lately. I wrote this piece on the health benefits and have been drinking the juice almost daily.

The benefits that these little wonders provide is amazing! It is said that drinking a glass of pomegranate juice daily for one year can reduce blood pressure and slow down LDL cholesterol.

Pomegranates are also a good source of antioxidants (something that I am always trying to get more of in my diet) and they are also high in Vitamins B, C, calcium, and phosphorus. All of these together really help the body fight disease.

So when can you buy pomegranates? You can buy them in the fall, up until December.

The juice is readily available in the stores, of course, but read the label; some have added sugar, coloring, and flavors.

What can you make with pomegranates? Well you can make a margarita!

I have also found some recipes that are worth sharing from a neat book called Pomegranates by Ann Kleinberg.  I am starting to put some of them on the Recipes page of my blog so check it out!

I hope you'll give pomegranates a try in your cooking!

Check out this great website, California Pomegranates!
