Should cell phones be banned in Restaurants?

I say definently YES! Cell phones should be left behind in the car, back at home or if you cant live without it, and you feel you have to carry your cell phone with you at all times, then by all means bring it with you, but shut it off please!

There is nothing more irritating and annoying than someone's cell phone ringing or dinging with the most annoying jingle you ever heard, or the most annoying song you have ever heard, and sometimes it's one of those new gangster rap songs that's talking about their baby's moma getting beat, killing someone , selling drugs and other thing's I will not mention.

Who wants to hear terrible annoying things like that when there trying to sit down to a nice meal alone in peace or with the family or friends, I for one, and I am sure not the only one that doesn't want that to happen, it's happened to me several times in the restaurant.

First you hear the annoying sound that even you yourself have came to leave behind ,next you hear them saying "hello?" and did you ever notice how loud they will talk? what wrong with the other person that called them, Are they deaf? why do people alway's yell when their talking on their cell phones? They talk like their the only ones in the room! No courtesy to go outside and talk or quietly ask the caller to call them back later, just plain rude is what it is, and all of this is happening while your trying to enjoy your time away from home and enjoy your meal.

Some establishments have even went so far as to ban cell phones or have a sign posted on the wall or the door as you come in that asks if you brought your cell phone with you to please turn it off while your there, and guess what? I've still seen people's cell phones ring, them answer and talk on them as usual without any consideration to the sign or the people around them.
So in this question and debate of should cell phones be banned in restaurants? My vote and opinion on this subject is definently YES! By all means! Cell phones are nice to have, especially in the case of an emergency but theres a time and a place to have them and use them, and in my opinion a restraurant where you go to relax and eat and visit with friends to get a way from the hustle and bustle of the outside world,is just not the place to bring them.

cell phones are a great way to communicate when you are not home, but there are places and times for them to be used and there are some people that own them that need to learn the right and proper ways to do so.

My family and I rarely eat out so it would annoy me greatly if our meal was spoiled by being forced to listen to some idiot blathering on his cell phone at the next table. Besides that, how rude is it to go out to dinner with someone and then spend the meal talking on a cell phone to somebody else. You'd think people would have some level of common sense or courtesy but that doesn't seem to be the case. Personally, I'd like to see cell phones banned in stores, restaurants, movie theaters, churches, libraries, and especially in cars. Can't count how many times I've nearly been rear ended or driven off the road by some idiot driving while on a cell phone. I hate the darned things.

I agree! It is so annoying to hear people talking loudly into their phones at restaurants (or anywhere, really). And of course the annoying ringtones too...ugh. We got along fine without cellphones for centuries. Your phone will still be there when you are finished with your meal. That's what voice mail is for. Or if you truly are expecting an important call, keep your phone on silent or vibrate, and if you have to take a call, excuse yourself and take your phone and step outside.

I can understand an emergency situation, but that cell phone needs to be on vibrate. And if you can't call them back and have to answer it, take the call outside or to the bathroom area. It's quieter there so you don't have to yell into the phone and you'll have more privacy and won't bothter the people around you.

There are and will always be classless and rude people who care nothing about social graces and what's correct and proper, only what works for them. Cell phone's are nice to have, but people dont realize just becuase they make you available to the world 24/7, doesnt mean you HAVE to be available. UNPLUGGGG!!!

If anyone knows how to behave politely and civilised in behabiour....I think nothing should be banned in this world. But unfortunately, people are not much aware about on this especially in south asian countries like my home country Bangladesh.

Mandatory vibrate or off, and if you receive an emergency than take it outside. Usually in a restaurant it is so loud with all the people trying to talk over each other you can not hear, so you might as well go outside, people have forgot the manors they were taught or maybe they were never taught, when dinning at a food establishment speak in a low voice and respect the people you are near, they might be listening to get information to use against you in a court of law. That is one reason I quit going out to eat, so damn loud it is annoying and for me to pay to hear someone else b---- about the weather well just is not worth it.

ok, so everyone has their oppinion. I say that if you are going to be such a cell phone addict and/or you need it to survive in your business, then limit your eating out to fast food. If I am going to eat out and want to say enjoy my experience at the restaurant I am at, then I would be offended by cell phone use. Taco Bell , McDonalds come on.............anything goes.
