Spaghetti with Meat Sauce

Spaghetti has always been one of my favorite dishes. It's easy to make, and provides a delicious, filling meal. Everyone prefers their spaghetti sauce differently. Some like it to be just a tomato sauce, while others prefer large meatballs scattered throughout. Personally, I like my meat sauce somewhere in the middle. I love having lots of cooked ground beef mixed into the sauce, so you get chunks of meat in every bite.

This recipe is my grandmother's recipe, and is the recipe I have grown up with. With six kids, my grandmother sure knew how to cook a great meal... I wouldn't change a thing.

Ingredients

  • 1 family size can of tomato soup
  • 1 regular can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 small can of tomato sauce
  • 1 small pkg Lawry’s Spaghetti sauce mix
  • 1 pinch Italian seasoning
  • 1 lb hamburger meat
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • salt, pepper, garlic salt, to taste
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 12 oz spaghetti
  • parmesan cheese (optional)

Cooking Directions

  1. Fry onion with hamburger meat and season with salt, pepper and garlic salt.
  2. In large pan, combine soups and tomato sauce.
  3. Add water, Italian seasoning and spaghetti mix.
  4. Add meat and simmer 30 min.
  5. Boil water in a large pot.
  6. Salt water, then add the spaghetti to the water.
  7. Boil for 8-10 minutes, or until al dente.
  8. Serve spaghetti topped with the meat sauce, with a sprinkling of parmesan cheese if you prefer.

    It is delicious.

The sauce is a reddish-orange color partially because of the lighting when I took the pictures, and partially because of the ingredients - tomato sauce and soup is mixed with cream of mushroom soup, so the color is lightened a little.

Tomato and mushroom soup in spaghetti??? Yech! You may as well crack open a can of Spaghetti-O's and serve that to the entire family.

EC - Nah, this is much, much better than Spaghetti-O's. Although I certainly have nothing against them... I loved Spaghetti-O's as a child. :D
