OK — who else is excited for FOOTBALL SEASON! From the excitement in the crisp, fall air to the layered hoodies snuggling underneath a quilted blanket, every single thing about a football game makes my heart flutter. With football comes the other colors and flavors of fall that I look forward to all year, so it’s no surprise that I associate this sport with everything that’s good in the world.
An element not to be forgotten of course, is THE FOOD!
My favorite being — CHILI. Dust off those crock-pots, people, it’s time.
You’ll need:
- 1 pound extra lean ground turkey (or your favorite vegetarian option - this recipe tastes great without meat, too)
- 1 can kidney beans
- 1 can tomato sauce
- 2 cups water
- 2 fresh tomatoes, diced
- 1 onion
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp chili powder (add more if you like it extra SPICY!)
Saute onions until tender. Add ground turkey and tomato. Cook until
turkey is cooked through. Set aside.
Mix remaining ingredients in the crock pot. Add turkey
mixture. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high
for 4 hours.
You’ll love the way this chili makes your whole house smell
delicious!
I like to put out bowls with fun ‘toppings’ for the chili, such
as…
- Shredded cheese
- Oyster crackers
- Low fat tortilla chips
- Chopped onions
Enjoy as you cheer on your hometeam!
What is your favorite football food?
