TV Dinners: American Idol Menu and Party Plan

Host an American Idol–themed evening with our recipes and entertaining tips

Ingredients:
One cranky British accent, former pop star divas, noise-cancelling earplugs

Preparation:
Gargle with salt water, perform voice exercises, prepare to be humiliated

Yield:
A comforting American feast guaranteed to lessen the sting of Simon's insults

The Menu:
We've never been on American Idol, but we imagine that performing in front of Simon, Randy, Paula, and Kara, not to mention the millions of people who tune in to the show each week, must be pretty tough. With this in mind, we put together a collection of hearty, comforting classics—they should offer enough fuel to hit all the right notes. Our menu also celebrates American cuisine with some of our favorite national dishes, including Meatloaf, Twice-Baked Potatoes, and Green Beans. We've paired this casual feast with honey-sweetened Iced Lemon Ginger Tea, which aspiring Idol stars will appreciate, since ginger, lemon, and honey all soothe the throat. For dessert, we continue the patriotic theme with Red, White, and Blue Ice Cream Cake.

Party Tip:
When hosting an American Idol watch party, be sure to allow time for your guests to send in their phone votes. To add to the fun, have everyone vote for his or her favorite performer and pick a house favorite. Or, if you have a karaoke machine, set that up for some pre- and post-show entertainment.
