The hubby and I just threw a post 4th of July party and served
an awesome dessert that our guests made funny faces at. We
explained that we were serving beer floats. Our guests gave
us puzzling looks and said that they wouldn't try it. We
handed everyone a small float, begged and pleaded for them to try
it, and eventually everyone caved in and humored us. At first
they were a little hesitant to admit that the floats were yummy,
but the next day, I received so many emails saying that they
couldn't get over how much they enjoyed the floats. One
tip though, the longer you let the float sit and mix, the sweeter
it will be (I think it tastes like coffee ice cream). I hope
everyone dives in and at least tries it.
Recipe:
1-2 Scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream - (being vegetarian, I used Coconut
Milk Ice Cream for mine and it was still really good)
1 bottle (or can) of a Dark beer. We used Shiner Black but I
am sure you can use Guiness.
Place ice cream in a cold glass and slowly pour the beer over the
ice cream. Lightly stir the beer and ice cream until desired
consistency.
Please enjoy!!

Report AbuseThe first time I saw a beer float was around 1986. A friend from Trinidad use to mix Guiness Stout with vanilla ice cream. I never tried it because I thought it was gross.

Report AbusePlease spell GUINNESS correctly.
Guinness contains Isinglass.....it is not vegetarian and for certain not vegan.
Guinness make a delicious float. I use a cinnamon ice cream and it is wonderful.
Good idea!

Report AbuseSome one commented that Beer was not vegetarian. Beer is made from Malted Barley, Hops, Yeast, and Water. Barley is a plant. Hops another plant grown from dirt. Yeast is a single celled fungi. Water is water. I do not understand what part of that mix would not be proper for a vegetarian. Do vegetarians avoid eating fungi like mushrooms and brewer's yeast?

Report AbuseI love Guinness ice cream (from Amy's Ice Creams in Texas). This seems like a good way to get a good beer ice cream fix now that I'm not in Texas.
