User post: Broccoli : Do you like eating this vegetable?

user

I personally abhor broccoli. I cannot stand it in any way, raw, steamed or stir fried. It makes me want to throw up and I hate seeing it on appetizer trays.  I always remember the arguments I used to have at home about eating the 'WONDER VEGETABLE'. My mother always went on  about how broccoli was rich in vitamins C, K, and A, as well as dietary fiber.

Now older I also know that it also contains multiple nutrients with potent anti-cancer properties including diindolylmethane and selenium. A single serving provides more than 30 mg of Vitamin C and a half-cup provides 52 mg of Vitamin C. The 3,3'-Diindolylmethaneonly found in broccoli is a potent modulator of the innate immune response system with anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-cancer activity.

And now research also claims that Broccoli contains the compound glucoraphanin, which can be processed into an anticancer compound sulforaphane.  A high intake of broccoli has been found
to reduce the risk of aggressive prostate cancer.

But I still cant seem to bring myself to eat it.

Do you too not eat certain vegetables despite knowing how good they are for you?

I love broccoli. But you can hold a knife to my throat before I'll eat okra, brussel sprouts or lima beans. I don't know how good they are for you, but I find them so nasty. So very, very nasty.

    But, bring on the broccoli!!

I like broccoli. You can eat it raw (with a salad dressing, my favorite is low fat ranch) or cooked. If you just HATE it, shred some of it up (raw) in a salad, and you'll never know it's in there (well, you will if you prepared it, but you won't really taste it!). Another thing that I do, which tastes awful, but it's just a quick shot of it, is to juice it. Juice raw carrots, baby spinach and broccoli and just drink a quick shot of it and you're done for the day.

i love broccoli! yum. its better for you cooked than it is raw too. i like it in a really spicy stir fry. have you tried broccoli cheese soup or something? maybe if you smother it with other great tasting food you wont notice it so much and youll still get all the benefits of it.

When I was in high school biology (a hundred years ago!)Mr. P had us do a saliva test for an enzyme that causes us to either like broccoli or abhor it. It's a genetically passed enzyme so.....if you hate broccoli, it's your parents' fault!
