User post: Chicken Soup for the Soul...And for Nasty Pre-Winter Colds

I'm a bit under the weather today.  Finally caught the cold that has been going round-robin in my house.  I'm certain my 4-year-old brought it home from pre-school with him.  (Thanks Mrs. D!).  So to make myself feel a little better, I decided to whip up a batch of my mom's chicken soup.  Yes, everyone has their own chicken soup recipe.  Now I might be a bit biased but I truly think my mom's is the best.

Here is her recipe:

Add a little bit of water to bottom of pot (just enough to cover bottom);
Add chopped onion and bring to boil;
Depending upon how much soup you want, add 6 cans of chicken broth (more or less based upon your needs);
Add chopped celery and carrots;
Add chicken bone and chopped chicken pieces;
Add 1 TBS of tomato sauce;
Add 3/4 cup pastina;
Salt and Pepper to taste.

Cover pot.  Simmer on low for 2-3 hours (I like my carrots and celery soft so I usually go about 3 hours).

And with any luck your cold will vanish by morning!

    I had to stop by and compliment you on your choice of handles. Being canine myself I've got a certain respect for bi*ches.
